A report from Italy has suggested Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is disappointed with his current squad status at Tottenham Hotspur, and while he still loves the club, it is thought the Dane now ‘feels betrayed.’

Having been a first regular under previous managers, José Mourinho and Antonio Conte, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has found himself out of favour with new manager, Ange Postecoglou.

Both Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr appear to be the first-choice central midfielders for Postecoglou, and the pair have started the majority of games this season.

Hojbjerg, on the other hand, has started just one game this season, the Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham. The Danish international has had to make do with brief substitute appearances in the Premier League so far (Transfermarkt).

Having been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid for much of the summer (Daily Mail), and a deadline day switch to Fulham coming to nothing (Football Insider), Hojbjerg remains a Spurs player. For now, at least.

Hojbjerg wants a new challenge away from Spurs

According to a report from CalcioMercato, Hojbjerg is unhappy with his situation at Spurs presently, and could be taking steps to leave the club in January.

It is said his limited game time has left the 28-year-old feeling “betrayed” and “very disappointed” and Hojbjerg is expected to look for a new challenge in the January transfer window.

Despite Spurs being a club he “loves so much,” it is believed Hojbjerg cannot sit around much longer and that is why he has changed his agent recently.

The report claims Juventus are still keen on the midfielder but would be unable to sign him permanently due to Tottenham’s €40m (£34.6m) price tag. However, the Turin club are “ready to seize” any opportunity they can.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t blame Hojbjerg for wanting to leave the club, and you have to imagine his situation is only going to get worse when Rodrigo Bentancur is back from injury.

I would be very surprised if Hojbjerg remains a Spurs player after the January transfer window, but I also don’t believe he feels betrayed or is kicking up a fuss behind the scenes. He has always been a professional, and will remain so.
