According to Tuttosport (as relayed by FcInterNews), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is no longer Juventus’ top midfielder target for the January transfer window.
A whole host of reports from Italy over the last few weeks have talked up the chances of Juventus making a move for Hojbjerg amidst the uncertainty over Paul Pogba’s future.
This includes a report by CalcioMercato at the start of this month, which suggested that Massimiliano Allegri is keen on bolstering his midfield department in January and likes the profile of the Spurs star.
Meanwhile, Gazzetta dello Sport claimed two weeks ago that the Old Lady are convinced ‘from all points of view’ that the Dane would be the right fit and have even spoken to his representatives.
A couple of days ago, LondonWorld even went a step further and suggested that the Serie A giants were readying a £30m offer to sign the 28-year-old.
Hojbjerg is not Juventus’ top target for January
However, Tuttosport have now poured cold water over those claims, stating that the Tottenham man is no longer the club’s top target.
The report alleges that Juve are prioritising a move for Nice’s Khephren Thuram over Hojbjerg ahead of the January window.
It is explained that the 22-year-old is seen as a much better like-for-like replacement for Pogba, given his pace, athleticism and ball-carrying ability.
Spurs Web Opinion
Irrespective of whether Juventus make an offer for Hojbjerg, I have no doubt that several clubs will vie for the midfielder’s signature in January. Atletico Madrid are likely to return again, having failed with a move for the 28-year-old during the summer.
