Gary Neville has been weighing up Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of winning the Premier League title this year, and suggested they are unlikely to challenge.
Tottenham have enjoyed a fantastic start to life under new boss Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites remain unbeaten after the first eight games of the season, with six wins and two draws.
As we head into the international break, Spurs are now top of the Premier League, albeit on account of goals scored compared to London rivals Arsenal.
Below them, reigning champions Manchester City are reeling after back-to-back defeats against the Gunners and Wolves.
Liverpool round out the top four and appear to be back to their best, despite a dramatic and controversial defeat to Spurs last weekend.
It may be early in the season, but there is now talk of Tottenham potentially mounting a surprise title challenge this year. With Ange-ball in full swing, and the likes of Heung-min Son, James Maddison, and Cristian Romero in top form, it would seem anything is possible.
Can Spurs challenge for the title?
While some are putting Spurs in the conversation for a title challenge, Gary Neville certainly isn’t. Speaking on his podcast, the pundit suggested Liverpool are far more likely to be pushing at the top of the table come the end of the season.
On Liverpool’s chances, Neville said: “They could, they could. They are more likely to than Spurs, no doubt about that. I think Liverpool have got something about them.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I don’t think any Spurs fan is allowing themselves to get too carried away just yet. We’ve had a brilliant start, the team is playing nice football, and everyone is happy. The main priority this year is to bring stability and unity back to the club, and that’s already happening. Anything else is a bonus.
