The Telegraph have revealed that there is a possibility of at least one Premier League match being moved to Christmas Eve this year.

While Boxing Day fixtures have long been an English football tradition, a match has not taken place on December 24 since 1995. The topic has been a contentious one since it would be difficult for the away fans to travel for the game.

However, The Telegraph have now revealed that proposals to play on Christmas Eve for the first time in almost three decades have now been raised.

Football could return for Christmas Eve

The report states that while the Premier League have refused to comment on the possibility, the expectation is that one game could be played on December 24, which falls on a Sunday this year.

There are now indications that this match will be Wolves vs Chelsea (Express and Star).

According to the publication, other insiders have also raised the prospect of games potentially being played on New Year’s Eve.

Spurs Web Opinion

While many of us would not mind having football to watch on Christmas or New Year’s Eve, it will not be fair to the travelling fans, nor to the players and their families, which is why I hope that the Premier League rejects the proposal.
