The Mirror have claimed that Manchester City would be willing to loan out rumoured Tottenham target Kalvin Phillips in January.
Phillips has found game time hard to come by since his switch to the Etihad in the summer of 2022, with the midfielder struggling to force himself into the starting eleven over recent weeks despite the injury to Rodri.
Football Transfers claimed last week the 27-year-old has decided to leave the Premier League champions in January, with Tottenham said to be ‘really keen’ on landing the player.
A loan move is an option for Kalvin Phillips
The Mirror have now revealed that City were willing to sanction a loan move for Philips in the summer but the midfielder wanted to stay and fight for his place.
It is suggested that Pep Guardiola’s men could once again be open to sanctioning a temporary move, although a permanent sale might now prove more favourable.
The report explains that the former Leeds man has not made a final decision on whether to leave City yet but he is aware that he faces the risk of being left out of England’s squad for next summer’s Euros if he continues warming the bench.
The publication adds that Phillip’s representatives CAA Stellar are now expected to field calls over the availability of their client ahead of the January transfer window.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that Tottenham will be in the market for a midfielder in January, with Hojbjerg looking likely to leave.
With Conor Gallagher no longer appearing to be on the market, I would not be surprised if Spurs do turn their attention to Phillips, given that he is homegrown and has plenty of Premier League experience.
