Fabrizio Romano has revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Kalvin Phillips is now ‘very likely’ to leave Manchester City during the January transfer window.

There has been plenty of speculation recently linking Phillips with a move to Spurs, with several outlets suggesting since the start of October that the Lilywhites are ‘really keen’ on winning the race for the midfielder (Football Transfers).

The 27-year-old’s entourage are thought to be fielding enquiries from clubs ahead of January, with Man City even thought to be open to loaning the player out (The Mirror).

However, Spurs are expected to face plenty of competition for the England international’s signature, with reports over the last week crediting both Bayern Munich (90 min) and Newcastle United (TEAMtalk) with interest in the player.

Kalvin Phillips is likely to leave amid Spurs links

Romano has now taken to social media to state that both City and the player’s representatives expect to part ways when the transfer window reopens.

The journalist suggested that while Phillips will fight for a place in Pep Guaridola’s starting eleven until January, his plan is to move to a club where he will get regular game time.

Now that Conor Gallagher no longer seems to be a realistic option for the Spurs after his impressive start to the season for Chelsea, I fully expect the North London club to turn their attention to Phillips to replace Hojbjerg.
