A column in the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) has praised Guglielmo Vicario and questioned whether it is time for him to start for the Italian national side.
The outlet states that Vicario, who has been one of the best goalkeepers on show in the Serie A over the last couple of years, has hit the ground running since his move to Tottenham, showing great ‘technical and mental skills’ so far.
The report states that he has immediately won over Spurs fans, having made some ‘extraordinary’ saves this season. They label the 26-year-old as a ‘perfectionist’ and claim that he did his homework before giving the green light to join Tottenham.
Does Vicario deserve a chance to start for Italy?
Corriere also say that Vicario has developed a ‘special’ relationship with Ange Postecoglou, with the pair having a ‘sincere’ trust since they have both forged career paths that have involved ‘great sacrifices’.
The publication suggests that it is perhaps time for Luciano Spalletti to try out the Tottenham man between the sticks for the Azzurri.

Unfortunately for Vicario, he is not likely to win many caps for Italy over the course of his career, being in a similar age bracket to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, should the PSG star go through a bad run of form, the Spurs star is certainly well-positioned to grab the number one shirt.
