Alejo Veliz scored his first goal in a Tottenham shirt on Tuesday, with the striker converting with a header for Spurs Under-21s in their EFL Trophy clash against Peterborough United.
There are big things expected of Veliz back in his home country after the striker took the Argentine top-flight by storm this year and reports indicate that the newcomer has impressed the coaches at Hotspur Way since his summer switch to Spurs (Rob Guest – Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast).
Ange Postecoglou has not been shy of throwing the 20-year-old into the deep end, bringing on the striker a late substitute on three occasions already this season.
Alejo Veliz is getting minutes for Tottenham U21s
After coming on as a substitute for Wayne Burnett’s men in their clash against Colchester last month, Veliz was handed his first start for the Under-21s on Tuesday.
The striker demonstrated what he is capable of, putting the Lilywhites ahead on 24 minutes, with the centre-forward headed home Jamie Donley’s ‘perfect’ cross.
However, it was a night to forget for the Spurs youngsters as Peterborough emerged 3-1 winners and booked their place in the next round quite comfortably.
