It has long been suggested, but official documents have now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is indeed the highest-paid director in the Premier League.
Since taking over as chairman in 2001, Levy has become the longest-serving in the top flight of English football. His role has not always been a source of positivity, however.
While his business acumen has undoubtedly helped Spurs become a commercial behemoth, Levy and the ENIC group have received mass criticism for the way they have handled managerial appointments and player recruitment.
There were protests throughout the course of the 2022/23 campaign, urging Levy and the club’s owners to sell up and move on. Admittedly, on-field struggles did not help matters last year, and things do appear to be far more positive since Ange Postecoglou took over as manager this summer.
It has previously been suggested that Levy gets paid rather handsomely for his troubles, with the Daily Mail revealing he was paid £3.26m last season.
Football Insider had reported it was likely Levy would remain the top earner among any chairman in the Premier League for this year, too.
Daniel Levy’s earnings at Tottenham revealed
Now, a new report from Football Insider has confirmed this to be the case. Apparently, Levy’s wage is thought to be £3.3m per year, a figure which is “comparable with many of the club’s first-team players.”
Brighton’s Paul Barber is closest to Levy’s salary, earning £2.9m a year. Manchester City’s CEO Ferran Soriano’s wages are unknown, as City are the only club not to have submitted details, but he is believed to be on a high salary.
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite all the issues facing the club last year, it was never likely that Levy’s earnings were going to go down, was it? He earns crazy money, and always will do. And, whatever we think of his footballing decisions, he has made Spurs incredibly successful from an economic point of view.
