Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon has spoken openly about Jose Mourinho’s decision to leave him out of the Europa League squad last season.

The Welsh international admitted that it was ‘obviously frustrating’ but he did ‘kind of understand’ the situation.

Rodon was a last-minute signing from Championship side Swansea in the 2020 summer transfer window and has seen sporadic minutes come his way since joining the club.

He has played 15 games for Spurs in all competitions but none of them have come in the Europa League as Mourinho made the bold decision to leave the defender out of the squad for that competition last season.

However, that call was slightly out of their hands as Spurs, at the time, had 18 non-homegrown players, which is one more than UEFA allows.

A first-team squad member, therefore, had to miss out and it was the 23-year-old defender who was chosen, despite impressing in the limited Premier League minutes he was afforded.

After being asked whether he was excited to play in the European Conference League after being left out last year, he told football.london: “Yeah, like you say was obviously frustrating last season given the amount of opportunities that were there.

“But yeah I’m excited to get underway hopefully tomorrow night and hopefully at the start of a successful campaign.”

He added: “It was obviously frustrating. I kind of understood – it was for a reason, to adapt me and get me into the group.

“Every player wants to play a lot of games, but sometimes it doesn’t go like that and the best thing I could do was just to keep my head down, keep working hard and wait for my opportunity.”

On whether it was lonely being left behind, he said: “Nah, to be fair all the boys were brilliant with me last season, and all the staff.

“Last year was my first year and it was just about getting used to everything and adapting.

“Like I say I think it all happens for a reason and like I say I’m just delighted to have more opportunities this season.”

SpursWeb Opinion

It was the wrong decision, in my opinion. Rodon deserved more minutes and the Europa League would have been perfect. Although if he was playing against Zagreb, the outcome probably would’ve been the same.

AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie is reportedly ‘overwhelmed’ by Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in him.

JuveLive state that Fabio Paratici has already ‘moved eagerly’ for the 24-year-old. The managing director of football for Spurs has strong links to the Italian market and loves to sniff out players on the cheap so this potential deal will not come as a surprise to many.

The signing may not be one that requires a big transfer fee given that the midfielder’s contract at the San Siro expires at the end of this season. Spurs are said to be willing to satisfy the needs of both AC Milan and Kessie with regards to a January move.

Tottenham’s strong interest has even reportedly taken Juventus ‘out of the game’ for Kessie’s signature as Spurs may leap ahead of the competition due to their willingness to pay a fee in January.

SpursWeb Opinion

Kessie on a free almost seems too good to be true for Spurs. Surely, at some point, every top team in Europe will be in the race. In the meantime, everyone around N17 will be whispering it quietly until January at least.

Tottenham Hotspur are one of many clubs interested in signing Kalvin Phillips, according to TEAMtalk.

Spurs, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal are all reportedly ‘keeping tabs’ on the midfielder’s situation with Leeds United.

Leeds and Phillips are both allegedly ‘aware’ of this interest and the Whites are therefore ready to make him the highest-paid player at the club to secure his long-term future in West Yorkshire.

Compared to his England teammates, Phillips is reportedly earning considerably less – his current deal was signed in 2019 when he was a Championship player.

That contract still has a healthy three years left with it expiring in 2024 but Leeds are still willing to extend it and offer him a lot more money.

This comes as no shock given Phillips’ influence on Marcelo Bielsa’s team – he is a key part of their growing status as a Premier League side.

He also introduced himself as a star on the international stage with his great performances for England this summer during Euro 2020.

SpursWeb Opinion

Phillips is a class act who would be a great acquisition for every Premier League side. He will, however, be very difficult to steal. Leeds would not let him go easy and he is born and bred in Yorkshire so he is very happy where he is.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham has revealed that former Spurs chairman Lord Alan Sugar told him to ‘f*** off’ just before he left the club to join Manchester United.

The striker explained how things got ‘heated’ and the pair ending up ‘having a row’ during contract negotiations ahead of Sheringham’s North London exit.

The forward, after spending five years at Spurs between 1992 and 1997, eventually jumped ship to Manchester United, which seemingly did not go down well with Alan Sugar.

It was met with great sadness from Spurs fans given the striker had scored an impressive 112 goals in all competitions for the club.

Tottenham, to no surprise, were keen to offer the forward a new contract but could not agree on the terms and he was then picked up by Sir Alex Ferguson to do the hard task of replacing cult-hero Eric Cantona at Man United.

Sheringham most recently spoke about the saga on an episode of A League of Their Own when he was asked how Sugar acted during the time (as quoted by The Sun).

He said: “They [Spurs] offered me a four-year contract when I was about 30.

“I said I wanted a five-year contract, we were humming and harring about that and it got a little bit heated.

“And then he changed his mind, he said, ‘In fact, no I don’t think you’re even going to play for another four years, so we’re going to offer you a three-year [deal]’.”

“And we just end up having a row and I said, ‘Well I want to go then’. And he went, ‘Go on then, f*** off,’ and I went ‘All right then I will’.”

“[I] put in a transfer request and lucky for me Man Utd came calling and said, ‘Come and play for us’.”

SpursWeb Opinion

None of this surprises me, at all. Unfortunately, this was a common case with Spurs at the time – we were a feeder club. Sheringham, Berbatov, Carrick, and that’s just to Man United. Sheringham did come back, however.

Speaking on The Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are already searching the market for a new striker ahead of the next summer transfer window.

The well-renowned Italian journalist stated that ‘Tottenham are already looking at potential strikers for summer 2022’, although he did not name any potential options.

Romano also failed to comment on whether this potential signing would be a partner for Harry Kane or his replacement in North London.

Spurs did not delve into the market for a new striker in the 2021 summer transfer window, with Bryan Gil the only player signed who can be counted as a true attacking reinforcement.

Due to Carlos Vinicius heading back to Benfica after his loan spell ended, it may have come as a shock to many that a striker was not a priority for Spurs. Young Dane Scarlett is now the only other out-and-out striker at the club beyond Harry Kane.

However, if Romano is to be believed, it appears Tottenham are already looking for a man to fill the void next year.

SpursWeb Opinion

It was a shock that a backup striker was not signed in the summer transfer window. You cannot question Dane Scarlett’s obvious ability but it may be forcing him in too soon.

If potential strikers are already being looked at, why wasn’t it a priority a few weeks ago? A strange one, for sure.

Tottenham Hotspur’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici has been criticised by Italian journalist Enrico Camelio following Juventus’ poor start to the Serie A season.

Italian news outlet Calciomercato Show focused on Juventus’ fullback situation, highlighting the fact that Luca Pellegrini and Mattia De Sciglio started against Napoli as an example of one of Paratici’s ‘faults’.

The 48-year-old joined Tottenham in July after eleven years at Juventus in a variety of roles.

Paratici has overseen a busy summer in N17, with a number of senior players having departed including Toby Alderweireld, Moussa Sissoko, Danny Ros and Erik Lamela.

Tottenham’s summer recruitment focused on a younger crop of players heading through the door with Pierluigi Gollini, Emerson Royal, Pape Matar Sarr, Bryan Gil and Cristian Romero as part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s new-look side.

Enrico Camelio said: “The faults of Paratici?

“I only say this: Pellegrini on the left, De Sciglio on the right. He could never win against Napoli. Pellegrini would be at the bench at Genoa, let’s not joke.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Paratici has only had only transfer window in North London and needs at least three more before he can start to be measured on his performance at Tottenham.

He has already moved on a number of older players, however, the fact that the club failed to bring in an attacking midfielder or a backup striker this summer was a frustration.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ social media team have appeared to have aimed an indirect dig at Harry Kane’s summer transfer saga at Tottenham Hotspur.

Responding to one of the most recent videos on Wolves TikTok account, a Spurs fan posted a reply in which they suggested that Harry Kane is a better player than Raul Jimenez.

Wolves attempted to offer some quick-witted humour by claiming: “But at least Jimenez wants to play for us.”

Kane’s future at Tottenham during the summer was the subject of intense press speculation with reports suggesting that the 28-year-old was desperate to depart North London and join Premier League champions Manchester City (The Athletic).

https://twitter.com/JoeAfc1/status/1437480678040522762?s=20

Kane made his first Premier League appearance of the season at Molineux last month when he came off the bench for the final fifteen minutes of Spurs’ 1-0 win and was the focal point of some of the songs from the home supporters who mocked Kane’s reported preference to leave the club (Alasdair Gold).

SpursWeb Opinion

The Kane saga was one of the biggest talking points throughout the summer and it is hardly a shock that it is still being used as a dig.

When official club accounts try to imitate the tone and voice of supporters, however, is questionable and can be considered to be in poor taste by many.

Ex-Premier League referee Kieth Hackett has applauded the officials for giving a penalty to Crystal Palace for handball against Tottenham Hotspur.

The moment came in the 75th minute when the energetic Conor Gallagher put a ball into the box which struck Ben Davies on the arm. John Moss did not give the decision immediately but the assistant flagged, leading the onfield referee to point to the spot.

Wilfried Zaha stepped up and converted the spot-kick in what was the opening goal of the game and it proved to be a catalyst for a late Spurs collapse as they conceded two more and lost the game 3-0.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Nuno Espirito Santo who was looking to continue his perfect start to life in the Premier League with Spurs.

Even after losing Tanganga to a red card, the Portuguese manager would have hoped that his side could hold on to a point but Davies’ handball was the beginning of the end.

Hackett claimed the decision, however, was the right one (Football Insider): “I thought the decision was terrific.

“Great officiating. John Moss was not in a position to judge, the assistant was. The vigour of which he flagged sold the decision to me.

“When you see the replay he had no alternative. The hand and arm was extending out of the body and it fills the criteria of handball, 100 per cent.

“There was no doubt in the decision, it was a good piece of refereeing and good teamwork.I don’t think every handball in the penalty area is a yellow card. Let’s put some value into a yellow card.

“If that handball had stopped a promising attack…In some instances, then, yes. But I support the match official’s decision. The penalty kick is sufficient punishment.

“We got into that habit, as English referees, of showing a yellow card for every penalty. With the lighter touch that we are seeing, we’re seeing a softer touch and I think that is benefitting the game.

“It will work if the players behave. One of the differences at the Euros was that the player’s discipline was excellent. If we see a deterioration of player behaviour then it does make it difficult for the referee to apply a lighter touch.”

SpursWeb Opinion

When Tanganga got sent off, the opening goal for Palace felt inevitable – but the way in which it happened was avoidable.

Davies, an experienced player, should know better than to leave his hand out like that: it was, without doubt, the correct decision.

Reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Nahitan Nandez could still leave in January with Cagliari allegedly willing to sell if a ‘suitable offer’ comes in.

Nandez was heavily linked with Spurs across the summer, with the player reportedly putting in a transfer request as he was keen to move to Tottenham.

Cagliari chief Stefano Capozucca has even confirmed the player held talks with Spurs in the summer transfer window. He said told L’Unione Sarda (as quoted by Calciomercato) that Nandez ‘had meetings with Tottenham’.

Nandez has made 75 appearances for the Italian club while also proving his credentials on the international stage – making an impressive 44 appearances for Uruguay since his debut in 2015 when he was 19-years-old.

The report states that if a ‘suitable offer’ arrives in January, Cagliari will sell up and they would like to ‘cash in as much as possible’, realising that Nandez would be ‘very useful’ for many teams, including Spurs.

SpursWeb Opinion

Nandez has proved that he is ready for a big move and could be a nice addition to Nuno’s three-man midfield, especially with the current issues he is having surrounding a lack of depth, power and creativity.

Davinson Sanchez’s transfer from Ajax to Tottenham Hotspur in 2017 has led to a legal battle between the defender’s former club and intermediary Nestor Fernando Villarreal.

According to the report from Antena 2, the 25-year-old centre-back is now caught up in a legal ‘mess’.

The dispute comes from Villarreal claiming he is owed 5% of the training fee that went to Atletico Nacional following the defender’s transfer to Spurs in 2017.

Sanchez rose through the academy at Atletico, making 33 first-team appearances for the Colombian club before being snatched up by Ajax in 2016.

Due to FIFA’s solidarity scheme, Atletico were due a training rights fee, which is an attempt to reward smaller clubs who have trained players in their earlier years before they eventually move for big money in the future.

The report states that Villarreal was due 15% of this fee but has only received 10% and the case is now going to the Court of Medellin. However, this legal battle will not affect Tottenham or Sanchez directly.

SpursWeb Opinion

Despite not having a direct problem with Sanchez or Tottenham, it shows how complex modern transfers can be. It seems silly as to why deals can break down so easily, but when transfers are going down to the bare bone like this it gives context as to why.

Rio Ferdinand has said that Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo will have been ‘going bananas’ at the passive nature of his midfield during the club’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

Before the defeat, Tottenham had enjoyed a perfect start to life in the Premier League this season – winning three out of three without conceding a goal.

However, Nuno’s side had a miserable trip to South London on Saturday where they fell 3-0 to Patrick Viera’s new-look Palace team.

Spurs, albeit damaged by absent players, offered next to nothing in an offensive sense and only managed to muster one shot on target throughout the entire ninety minutes.

Despite a good start in terms of results, a lack of attacking creativity is a theme rife throughout the start of this season – Nuno’s side have only created one big chance in the opening four games.

Ferdinand has suggested that this will be a cause of concern and even called out midfield players Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks.

He said on BT Sport (11/09, 1:20 pm): “The Spurs manager must be going bananas.

“He’ll be seeing this analysis, he’ll be seeing it live himself.

“You’ll see it when they’re playing, they’re very very passive. Skipp and Winks have both had a couple of opportunities each to just play it.”

SpursWeb Opinion

A lack of creativity from deep is probably the biggest issue in this Spurs side at the moment. Nuno’s side does not have a midfielder, bar Ndombele, comfortable with getting on the ball and making things happen. It isn’t Hojbjerg and Skipp’s game – this issue may be Ndombele’s calling to get back in this side.

However, despite Nuno agreeing on the deal with the Turkish side’s manager Vitor Pereira, the two clubs could not reach a final agreement over the terms.

Sessegnon was sent out on loan last year to Hoffenheim and the 21-year-old played 29 times for the club in all competitions.

However, since returning to North London – Sessegnon has once again struggled to force his way into Tottenham’s first-team plans.

The England U21 international hasn’t played a minute of Premier League football but did feature in both of the Europa Conference League Qualifiers.

Sessegnon didn’t get the loan move he reportedly desired meaning he has no choice but to fight for his spot under Nuno until at least January.

Some Tottenham fans have taken to social media to give their view on this update:

Spurs Web Opinion:

Sessegnon should really be the natural backup to Sergio Reguilon in that attacking left-back role, so I would expect him to get plenty of rotational minutes this season. You never know, if Reguilon gets injured, he could find himself in the regular starting XI.

Ex-England defender Danny Mills has aimed a dig at Steve Hitchen and Fabio Paratici for their recent antics on Tottenham Hotspur matchdays.

The pair have been captured on video sitting alongside the players and staff on the bench, shouting and acting very animated.

While the video was largely well-received by Spurs fans who were happy to see some passion injected from the powers that be, the same has not been said for some players.

The Sun reported last week that the animated nature of the pair is not as well-received by Tottenham stars, as it reportedly doesn’t ‘sit doesn’t sit right with them’.

Reports have claimed the duo have to sit in that area due to the Premier League’s pandemic protocols that dictate all players and staff have to remain together in one matchday bubble.

It is yet to be seen whether they will continue in the same fashion after the rules are loosened. However, Mills has still firmly opposed the actions of the duo.

He said (Football Insider): “You want your coach, the first-team coaches, you want people that matter.

“These people should not be there, they are irrelevant. Come match day, they are irrelevant – it’s not their job. They should not be anywhere near it.

“It can be distracting. Too many cooks spoil the broth. There are too many voices, too many instructions.

“Imagine it at Leeds, Victor Orta sat on the bench. Victor’s great at his job, but would you want him next to Bielsa on the bench? No, of course you wouldn’t.

“You’d get mixed messages. That’s the last thing you want. Get yourselves back upstairs in the prawn sandwich room.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Personally, I disagree with Danny Mills’ view. That sort of passion from the powers that be are a rarity in the Premier League.

It gives the fan a sense that they are in the same boat and are going to do everything they can to rebuild the club – which has been much needed at Spurs for a long time.

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to social media to share their reaction to the latest update in the Tanguy Ndombele saga.

The Evening Standard reported that the French international now wants to fight for his place in the team and hoped to play his first minutes under Nuno against Crystal Palace or in the Europa Conference League Thursday.

Ndombele was included on the bench in the 3-0 defeat to Palace but did at least make his first matchday squad of the season.

This comes after a drama-filled transfer window, as the 24-year-old reportedly requested to leave the club. However, Spurs slapped a £51.5m price tag on their club-record signing (The Telegraph).

Clearly, no club was willing to meet that value before the deadline and the midfielder has subsequently remained in North London.

The saga has divided the Spurs fan base and some have taken to social media to give their view on the latest update regarding the 24-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This midfield three system is built for Tanguy and, as shown by the defeat to Palace, Tottenham are in desperate need of his creativity. It makes sense for all involved for him to knuckle down and fight his way back into the team. I only hope he finds the motivation.

Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that Tottenham are concerned about next month’s international break after the chaos of the one just gone.

The Portuguese manager, fresh off winning the Premier League manager of the Month for August, has called out the governing bodies to show more clarity.

The most recent international break has been one full of chaos – specifically regarding Tottenham’s three South American players in Giovanni Lo Celso, Christian Romero and Davinson Sanchez.

The trio all defied the rules to travel to South America and it all came to a head for the Argentian pair as, five minutes into their game against Brazil, health authorities came onto the pitch claiming the duo had entered the country by breaching COVID-19 rules (BBC).

The game was cancelled and the pair, along with Sanchez, are now quarantining and training in Croatia before they head back to North London (Independent).

Nuno addressed the situation before the Crystal Palace defeat and also called out the governing bodies to show more clarity.

He said (Standard): “It’s confusing for everybody.

“Because we don’t have much news from the governing bodies on what we should do, what to expect in the next international break.

“This is the main concern for us, that things can be solved for the future. But it’s really difficult to understand.

“Every time that an international break comes around it’s always a concern for us because you cannot control [the situations].

“There is nothing much more that I can say that will avoid or find a solution for this problem.

“With FIFA, UEFA and the Premier League, they know that we have a big, big issue among the clubs, so I hope they solve it. I hope they solve it, but nothing I’m going to say is going to bring a solution to it.

“FIFA is the governing body of football so we expect answers from FIFA that can tell us what we should do, because it’s not only us, it’s all the clubs in the Premier League.

“It happens with South American players but suddenly it could happen with European players so imagine that our England internationals cannot join the England team because they would go to a red list country. Big problem.”

SpursWeb Opinion

What Nuno is alluding to is completely right. The governing bodies have to take more control in these situations and lay down some proper rules. Otherwise, it’s a player versus club situation and that is what has led to the chaos we have seen in the past week.

Reported Tottenham transfer target James Ward-Prowse ‘didn’t even consider’ leaving Southampton to join another Premier League club, according to teammate and midfielder partner Oriol Romeu.

Romeu said he ‘never expected’ club captain Ward-Prowse to leave this transfer window because he ‘loves the club’.

The Telegraph reported that Tottenham, alongside Aston Villa, were ‘after’ Ward-Prowse and preparing moves to sign the midfielder.

The potential deal would have seen Ward-Prowse link up with former midfield partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in North London.

However, Villa went further than Tottenham with their interest as they reportedly submitted a £25m bid for the midfielder but it was swiftly rejected by the Saints.

It was no surprise that the deal was turned down, given that Southampton reportedly valued the 26-year-old at £50m.

The saga was put to an end after Ward-Prowse signed a new long-term deal with the club.

Despite the interest elsewhere, Rumeu stated he was always certain that the 26-year-old was going to remain at the club.

He said: “If you want me to be honest, I never expected Prowsey to go anywhere.

“He belongs to the club and the club belongs to him. It is the perfect relationship. He has been here since a kid and he improves his game still, even as the leader.

“I knew about the rumours, I knew about the clubs that were linked but I just didn’t see that happening at all.

“(James) didn’t even consider any of those options. He loves it here. The fact he is staying here for a long time is great news for everyone.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Ward-Prowse would have been a tidy addition to any Premier League side. He’s a great midfielder so it is no surprise that Southampton wanted £50m.

What was a surprise is that he signed a new contract with the Saints which effectively fends off any potential signing unless a huge fee comes in.

Reported Tottenham transfer target Sardar Azmoun could join Jose Mourinho’s Roma on a free transfer next summer, according to Calciomercato.

The report states the forward will leave Zenit St. Petersburg when his contract runs out next summer as he wishes to play in a more competitive competition than the Russian Premier League.

Roma are said to be one of the clubs sniffing around his signature and the Italian club are ‘thinking’ about signing the forward when he becomes a free agent.

That deal could see Mourinho get one over on his old club, as Spurs were linked with signing Azmoun over the summer. In fact, Azmoun himself revealed in an interview last week that ‘Tottenham made an offer but Zenit rejected it’.

The Iranian international is certainly putting himself in the window with his performances this season, scoring six goals in seven games across all competitions.

There will surely be a fight for the 26-year-old’s signature next year, with Mourinho’s Roma reportedly now involved.

SpursWeb Opinion

Losing a player to Jose Mourinho’s Roma would be bitter, and you can imagine the sort of thing the Portuguese manager would secretly love.

As for Azmoun, he seems like a good goalscorer – the 26-year-old would make a good back-up to Harry Kane but he might want his big move to be somewhere where he would be a starter.

The forward probably wouldn’t get that at Roma either though with Tammy Abraham’s arrival.

Reported Tottenham transfer target Matthias Ginter assumes that discussions will soon take place with Borussia Monchengladbach over signing a new contract.

The centre-back was the subject of a lot of reported interest across Europe this summer, with plenty of clubs looking to exploit the German international’s contract situation, with his deal expiring in 2022.

The 27-year-old has seemingly put these rumours to bed with his latest comments, suggesting that he is open to signing a new deal with the German club.

Tottenham were one of the clubs said to be sniffing around the defender in the transfer window. Bild reported in May that Spurs had put an offer on the table to Monchengladbach but a deal between the clubs never formulated.

Tottenham were not alone with their interest, with the same report suggesting that Liverpool, Inter Milan, and RB Leipzig were all keen but never made any official offers.

Sky Germany added to that by saying three Spanish clubs – Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid – all approached Ginter’s agent about a move.

All this reported interest never translated into anything concrete and now Ginter himself has come out to say he assumes contract talks will begin soon.

He said: “I’m the wrong person to talk to. I haven’t heard anything yet. But I assume that there will be an exchange in the next few weeks.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Ginter would have been a signing to please a lot of Spurs fans and understandably so – he is a seasoned professional and a German international.

Many felt Spurs needed to add another centre-back after Romero so Spurs’ interest in Ginter is not a surprising one. However, you feel this saga is coming to a swift end given his comments.

Lionel Messi reportedly ‘fell in love’ with Tottenham Hotspur’s new centre back Christian Romero after playing with him for Argentina during the Copa America this summer.

The report from The Athletic revealed all about Messi and Romero’s relationship and even stated the 34-year-old’s fondness for the defender developed so much that when returning to the Camp Nou after the tournament, his primary aim was to bring Romero with him.

Spurs, however, managed to secure the signing of Romero ahead of the La Liga giants, and Messi himself eventually left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Romero only made his debut for Argentina on June 4 but stepped in to play a big part in their Copa America win, which was Messi’s first major trophy with his nation.

The central defender only played three games in the tournament but started the final and kept a well-earned clean sheet against rivals Brazil (Transfermarkt).

After seeing his performances for Argentina, Messi was reportedly desperate to get Romero’s ‘aggression and physicality’ into Barcelona’s defence.

SpursWeb Opinion

Seeing Messi, a legend of the game, rate Romero this highly makes me very excited to see the defender get going in a Spurs shirt. Given he is now in quarantine it might be a while until we saw him start to get consistent minutes but patience is a virtue.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has revealed his confusion at reports claiming some Tottenham players are unhappy with Steve Hitchin and Fabio Paratici’s antics on matchdays.

The duo have been captured this season getting very animated on the touchline, jumping up and down while shouting in a very frantic fashion.

The video was well-received by some Spurs fans but according to the Sun, it has not been so welcomed by some players.

The report contained an unnamed source who stated the antics do not ‘sit right with the players’, who want the freedom to talk amongst themselves.

It also explained that the pair sitting on the bench may not be a choice, as COVID-19 protocols dictate all staff and players have to be seated together within one bubble.

When the rules are revisited, it will be interesting to see whether the duo continue their matchday antics. However, Campbell has strongly opposed the players’ reported view in the situation.

He said: “Just get on with playing.

“Do not worry about that! You are winning and at the top of the table. Why on earth are they worried about that.

“Your job is to win football matches so just concentrate on that. Do not worry about them.

“If they are reacted like that and you are winning, keep it going. Do not change a winning formula because winning cures all.

“You need a thick skin as a player. Nothing is ever going to be perfect.

“When things ain’t going right, people get animated. Some are quiet and do things in the background but some get animated. Just forget about it. Your job is to win football matches.”

SpursWeb Opinion

I agree with Campbell’s point of view. If anything, it is really refreshing to see such passion from the powers that be – too often there feels like a massive divide between the fans in the stands and the top. It feels odd that the players would have a problem with it, it should not affect them at all.
