Journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Yves Bissouma made it clear he wanted to join Tottenham this summer, despite there being competition for his signature.

The Times reported on Tuesday that Spurs had agreed on a £25m fee with Brighton for the transfer of Bissouma. The report suggested the midfielder is due to have his medical at Hotspur Way later this week before sealing his move to North London.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Brighton star’s representatives are expected to meet with Spurs over the coming hours to complete the final details ahead of the move.

90 min have claimed that Tottenham beat out competition from Aston Villa and Newcastle United for the 25-year-old, with the Villans said to have submitted an offer for the player this summer while the Magpies allegedly made an enquiry.

Jones has now revealed that the reason Spurs were able to beat out the competition for Bissouma’s signature was because of the midfielder’s insistence on joining the North London club.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about Bissouma’s impending move to Tottenham: “There was competition to get him but the outcome is helped by the fact Bissouma decided there was only one offer he was interested in accepting: Tottenham’s.

“This early move is a great sign for the fans, to know that they are pushing for deals like this with almost no public fuss. This will be a seriously good signing.”

The fact that Spurs managed to keep this news under wraps is extremely encouraging and suggests that there could be other deals in the pipeline that have not been reported. Getting Bissouma for just £25m also means that we can use the vast majority of our transfer budget to strengthen other areas.
