Chris Hughton believes Tottenham are adding a strong acquisition to their midfield with the signing of Yves Bissouma from Brighton.
Spurs are closing in on a £25 million deal for Mali international Bissouma which could rise with potential add-ons (Evening Standard).
The 25-year-old underwent a medical at the club’s Hotspur Way training ground on Thursday ahead of the finishing touches being put on his move to North London (Football.London).
With Bissouma set to become Tottenham’s third signing of the summer after Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, former Spurs defender and assistant manager Hughton feels the club is making a smart addition to Antonio Conte’s midfield.
He told The Athletic: “He’s a very talented player on the ball, happy to receive the ball in tight areas, and that’s why he can play in lots of different positions.
“The fee looks like really good business for Spurs. He has a lovely knack of receiving it and driving past players – whether a bit further forward or in that deeper role.”
Bissouma made 124 appearances for Brighton since joining the club in the summer of 2018 from Lille (Transfermarkt).
He made 26 starts in the Premier League last term as Graham Potter’s side secured a ninth place finish – their highest ever finish in the top-flight.
Spurs Web Opinion
Bissouma is an excellent signing for Tottenham and someone that will immediately add more quality to Conte’s midfield. It will give Conte a bit of a headache selection-wise, but that is a nice problem to have given the depth continues to get better.
