Cristian Stellini has been speaking to the press ahead of the weekend’s action in the Premier League and has provided an update on the recovery timeline of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma.

The midfielder arrived at Tottenham last summer from Brighton in a deal worth an initial £25 million (Sky Sports).

The move was praised at the time, but Bissouma has struggled to make a significant impact in his first season with the Lilywhites.

With just 25 appearances to his name, and no goals or assists (Transfermarkt), questions have been asked about the Mali international and how he fits into the Tottenham squad.

Bissouma picked up an ankle injury in February, and reports at the time suggested he would be out of action for around seven to eight weeks.

Antonio Conte even claimed the player may miss the whole rest of the season (Football.London).

However, Alasdair Gold recently said that may have been pessimistic, and implied Bissouma could return before the end of the campaign (Football.London).

Now, Stellini has offered some details about the player’s recovery process, but stressed how important it will be to be patient with Bissouma.

He told Football.London: “Injury of Bissouma is particular. He is recovering.

“He is starting to work but it is not easy to recover strength in the calf after an injury like this so we have to respect the time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Hopefully Bissouma can return to action soon, but there’s no point rushing him back and making things worse.

We’ve managed this long without him, and I’d rather see a fully fit Bissouma coming out of the blocks next season, than a half-fit Bissouma struggle for the last few games of this campaign.

I have faith that once he returns, we will see the Bissouma we all hoped we were getting at the start of the season.
