Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has taken to Instagram to reflect on his first season at the club and has issued an apology following yesterday’s defeat to Brentford.

Spurs found themselves ahead in the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday afternoon following Harry Kane’s sublime set-piece effort, only for a dismal second half display to allow Brentford back into the match and they punished the north Londoners with a convincing 3-1 scoreline.

The defeat has meant that Tottenham’s hopes of Europa League football next season have come to an end after Brighton’s win against Southampton earlier today means it is mathematically impossible to catch the Seagulls.

Bissouma moved to Spurs in June for an initial £25m transfer fee with a further £10m in add-ons from Brighton and has experienced a difficult first season in N17.

The Malian international saw his pre-season preparations hampered after he contracted Covid-19 during the club’s tour of South Korea along with Fraser Forster and the pair had to fly home following a period of isolation without playing in either scheduled fixture in Asia (Football.London).

Bissouma also thanked supporters for their support while he was sidelined after undergoing surgery on his ankle in February but has recently returned to action.

He said in his Instagram post: “I wanted to thank you for all the support you gave us during this period, especially me when I was injured, you encouraged and boosted me a lot and I hope to give you back this support.

“We would have liked this last home game to happen differently and we are really sorry for that but we still have one last game that we hope to win.

“I know that this season has not been easy but we will do everything to make next season the right one.

“Thank you again for your support and for always being there #coys.”

Many fans were left excited and believed Tottenham had secured one of the bargains of the summer transfer window when they landed Bissouma for £25m, however, the season has passed him by.

He looked at times completely devoid of confidence when playing under Antonio Conte with the Italian even admitting that the midfielder was struggling to adapt to his tactical demands (Sky Sports).

The pairing of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg simply does not work, hopefully, next season it will be Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur who can forge the partnership in the middle of the park.
