A year on from signing for Tottenham, Yves Bissouma has taken to social media to describe the Lilywhites as the ‘best club in the world’.

Bissouma had emerged as one of the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League over the previous two to three years at Brighton and there was plenty of excitement among Spurs fans when the club snapped him up for £25m plus add-ons last summer.

However, the Mali international has endured a frustrating first season at Spurs, struggling to get starts in the first couple of months at the club before picking up an ankle injury in February which put him out of action until the final two matches of the season.

Bissouma struggled to make an impact under Antonio Conte but showed a marked improvement with his performances while Ryan Mason was in charge.

Bissouma calls Spurs ‘the best club in the world’

Bissouma will be hoping that the arrival of Ange Postecoglou works to his advantage and that he could make the number six role his own under the Australian next season.

The 26-year-old certainly appears determined to turn his fortunes around, stating on his Instagram story earlier this week (16/6/23)that ‘the best is coming soon’.

While Bissouma’s vision and passing range is not among his best attributes, I can see him thriving under Postecoglou, given that he will be expected to play short and have a lot more options on the ball.

The Mali international certainly has the technical quality to handle the ball in tight areas, something which Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg struggle with.  There is no doubt the central midfield pairing should consist of himself and Rodrigo Bentancur once the Uruguayan returns from his ACL injury.
