According to a report on Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season tour, Tanguy Ndombele and Yves Bissouma have already struck up a strong friendship after the former returned to the club from last season’s loan spell at Napoli.
The midfield pair will have spent very little time together last summer, with Bissouma arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion before Ndombele departed for Italy on a season-long loan.
While Bissouma struggled to make an impact in Antonio Conte’s squad due to tactical restrictions and injury issues, Ndombele won the Serie A title with Napoli, albeit as a bit-part player in the Italian team.
Everything is different at Tottenham now, of course. New boss Ange Postecoglou is assessing the merits of every player in his squad, and it is believed Ndombele could even be offered a new contract at Spurs if he impresses during pre-season (Dharmesh Sheth for Last Word on Spurs).
Bissouma and Ndombele are already good friends
Bissouma, meanwhile, has been touted as a “man re-energised” by a report from Football.London, and it is hoped he can enjoy a much better second season with Spurs.
That same report has touched on the connection the Mali international has developed with Ndombele so far.
Apparently, the pair “appear to be getting on like a house on fire” during pre-season preparations.
In fact, it is suggested that Bissouma has become one of the “more popular players” in the squad and is now considered “a main main” around the team.
Spurs Web Opinion
We do this every year, but it is tantalising to imagine Tanguy Ndombele finally coming good for Spurs.
With him and Maddison fighting to fill the attacking midfield role, and Yves Bissouma partnering with Rodrigo Bentancur behind them, we could have a formidable midfield.
Let’s just hope this friendship Ndombele and Bissouma have struck up can lead to the former finding his form and fulfilling his massive potential.
