Yves Bissouma is one of the players expected to have a bright future under Ange Postecoglou at Spurs, and his manager has been singing his praises in his latest press conference.
The buzz around the £25m signing (Sky Sports) of Bissouma from Brighton last summer suggested Tottenham had picked up a bargain. The midfielder was one of the standout performers for the Seagulls in the 2021/22 campaign.
Things didn’t quite go to plan for Bissouma in his first season with the Lilywhites. Injury issues didn’t help matters, and the Mali international struggled to slot into Antonio Conte‘s system and style of play.
That is all expected to change now that Ange Postecolgou has taken over at Spurs, with the Australian’s preferred formation and approach to the game believed to suit a player like Bissouma as part of a pair of holding midfielders.
Postecoglou likes what he’s seen of Bissouma so far
Speaking to the press ahead of Tottenham’s next game, Postecoglou was quizzed about Bissouma and his role for Spurs, and had plenty of positive things to say.
Postecoglou told Football.London: “Biss has been good and I think he’s a midfielder that can play in a number of areas for us. I don’t seem him exclusively as a number six.
“But he’s been really good since I’ve come here, he was in in the first days so he’s had a bit longer with us than the international players from day one.
“He’s got bags of energy, you know when he’s around and it’s great. He’s got a great personality. He’s a very, very good footballer. I’m looking forward to working with him. I think he can play a big part for us.”
When asked if Bissouma needs to add anything to his game, Postecoglou replied: “It’s still early days for all the players until we, and they, get a handle on how we’re going to play and our structures. For all of them there’s a bit of learning there to do.
“I like what we’ve seen of him. He’s got all the basic principles and he’s a willing learner. He’s working hard in training, he wants to understand what we require of him and that’s all you can ask for. Beyond that, I’m sure he’ll be a big contributor for us.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s been said before, but Yves Bissouma should feel like a new signing for us this year.
Even just looking at clips of him in training and behind the scenes you can tell he is a much happier person right now, and that can only translate into good things on the pitch.
