Football.London have revealed that Rodrigo Bentancur is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks after tearing his abductor.

The injury occurred in Uruguay’s final group-stage match against Ghana at the World Cup, with Bentancur being forced off with an injury in the first half.

Although the South American side went on to beat the Black Stars, they were knocked out of the tournament courtesy of South Korea overcoming Portugal thanks to some magic from Son Heung-min, who set up Hwang Hee-chan’s late winner.

Uruguayan journalist Federico Busyan has taken to social media to reveal that Bentancur has suffered a 5cm tear and that he is currently rehabilitating back at Spurs. The journalist explains that the 24-year-old is expected to return to action around Christmas.

This information is also backed up by Football.London, who state that the estimated recovery time for such an injury is around three to four weeks and that the former Juventus man could thus be out until around New Year.

It is worth remembering that Bentancur is suspended for the clash against Brentford on Boxing Day after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 4-3 win over Leeds last month. So, the midfielder might not miss any matches at all if he recovers in the expected timeframe.
