Fichajes.net have claimed that Villarreal fear Tottenham might beat them to the signing of Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.
Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a new number one this summer, with Hugo Lloris confirming earlier this month that he is seeking a new challenge after 11 years at the North London club (Nice-Matin).
We covered a report from Football Insider last week, which claimed that while David Raya and Jordan Pickford are at the top of Spurs’ wishlist, the club are also eyeing Livakovic as a potential alternative.
Livakovic seen as attractive option for Tottenham
This has now been backed up by Fichajes, who state that the Croat, who was one of the best goalkeepers on show in last year’s World Cup, is an ‘attractive’ option to Tottenham.
The publication asserts that Villarreal have been contemplating a move for Livakovic for ‘some time’ but the Spanish club are ‘threatened’ by Spurs’ entry into the picture.
The report adds that Tottenham’s failure to qualify for Europe might give an advantage to the La Liga side, who would be able to offer Europa League football to the goalkeeper.
Spurs Web Opinion
Europa League football would not make Villarreal a more attractive destination that Spurs and there is no doubt that the Lilywhites would be able to blow the La Liga side out of the water financially.
However, it appears quite clear that Livakovic is not at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist, with David Raya seemingly the club’s preferred choice to take over the gloves from Lloris.
