Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur look set to taste defeat in their effort to sign Villarreal star Nicolas Jackson, who is now on the verge of sealing a move to Chelsea.
The report claims that Spurs were considering a move for the 22-year-old on the back of his impressive finish to the 2022-23 campaign, with the forward ending the season with 13 goals and five assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, it is alleged that Chelsea have moved quickly to win the race for the player, with the deal described as being ’90 per cent done’.
The report alleges that the Blues have already agreed personal terms with Jackson and are now ready to meet his release clause, which stands at £34m.
It is explained that Ange Postecolgou’s men will be forced to turn their attention to other targets as the Senegal international looks set to complete a switch to Stamford Bridge.
Football Insider add that it is not just Spurs who had their eye on Jackson, with Aston Villa and Bournemouth also thought to have explored a deal for the Villarreal star this summer.

While Jackson is capable of playing on the flank, he is much more effective as a centre-forward, which is why it is puzzling why Spurs would have wanted him.
With Kane looking likely to stay and with Richarlison more than capable of playing as a number nine, Postecoglou is in more urgent need of wide-forwards.
