Davinson Sanchez is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the current transfer window and the 27-year-old is ‘not short of interest’ when it comes to picking his next club.

Defending was not a strong point for Tottenham last season, but it was arguably Davinson Sanchez who endured the worst of it in the 2022/23 campaign.

The Colombian fell victim to vitriol from the Spurs supporters and was made a scapegoat for some of the biggest defeats.

It is well known that new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is keen to reinforce the centre-back position this summer (90 Min).

At the same time, the Australian is thought to be plotting the exit of a number of his existing players (Telegraph).

Sanchez is highly likely to be one of the players heading out of the door this summer. Reports have linked the 27-year-old with a range of clubs, including Spartak Moscow (Sport Express), PSV Eindhoven (Voetbal International), Villarreal (Relevo) and Galatasaray (Sporx).

Davinson Sanchez has plenty of options

Clearly, Sanchez will have no trouble finding a new club this summer, with a host of reputable European teams looking at him. And, according to journalist Ryan Taylor, who is cited by the Express, the defender will be completing his move in the near future.

Taylor said: “Davinson Sanchez expected to finalise Tottenham exit in coming weeks. Not short of interest.

“Host of European clubs including Real Betis, Strasbourg, Galatasaray, Spartak Moscow, Fenerbahce and Villarreal have held discussions. Fee mooted is £10m-£13m.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Sanchez will leave the club this summer, now it’s just a case of Spurs finding the deal that works for them, and Sanchez himself picking the right destination.

If we can get a fee at the top end of that valuation, then that is a very good deal for a player who we are clearly desperate to get rid of.

Relevo have claimed that Villarreal are now considering making a move for Tottenham centre-back Davinson Sanchez.

The report states that Villarreal are on the lookout for a centre-back to replace Pau Torres following the Spaniard’s move to Aston Villa and have now identified Sanchez as an option.

It is said that while Spurs are ready to offload the Colombian, the North London club are demanding a fee of €15m (£12.8m) for his sale.

Davinson Sanchez

The publication suggests that such a fee might not be an issue for Villarreal since they are set for a cash influx of €35m-€40m (£30m-£34.3m) from Torres’ sale to Villa.

The competition for Davinson Sanchez is heating up

However, Relevo explains that the Yellow Submarine face plenty of competition for Sanchez, with Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Spartak Moscow also on the Tottenham man’s trail.

It is asserted that the centre-back’s preference on where he wants to move to could end up playing a ‘decisive role’ in the negotiations.

The report also adds that the Villarreal hierarchy have a good relationship with Spurs, having negotiated deals for the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Juan Foyth and Arnauj Danjuma over recent years.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Tottenham might have to end up accepting a fee of around £8m-£10m for Sanchez, given that he only has a year left on his contract.

Among the clubs mentioned in this report, one would think that the Colombian’s top preference would be to move to Villarreal, who are in next season’s Europa League.

According to a report in El Periodico Mediterraneo (01/07/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Everton have now joined Crystal Palace in the race for Arnaut Danjuma.

Danjuma joined Spurs on loan from Villarreal during the January transfer window, with the North London club having the option to make his move permanent for £27m.

However, the forward made just one Premier League start in N17 and the club unsurprisingly decided against taking up the option to sign him.

We relayed a report from The Daily Mail last week, which suggested that Palace had identified Danjuma as a potential replacement for Wilfried Zaha.

Everton now join the race for ex-Spurs Danjuma

El Periodico Mediterraneo have now claimed the Toffees are now ready to battle the Eagles for the former Tottenham man.

The report states that the Dutchman is now ‘on the exit ramp’ at Villarreal and is one of the ‘hot potatoes’ they’d like to offload this summer.

The publication adds that the former Bournemouth star has a ‘great reputation’ in England despite his struggles for game time at Spurs.

Palace are said to be ‘one of the main interested parties’ while Everton have also now ‘knocked on the door’ for Danjuma’s services.

El Periodico Mediterraneo remarks that the player also does not want to stay at Villarreal, which is why he is now ‘destined’ for an exit from El Madrigal this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs famously stole Danjuma from under Everton’s noses in January, which is perhaps why it is not a surprise to see the Toffees reignite their interest in the 26-year-old.

The Netherlands international did not get the opportunities he deserved at Tottenham and he certainly possesses the attributes to succeed in the Premier League.

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur look set to taste defeat in their effort to sign Villarreal star Nicolas Jackson, who is now on the verge of sealing a move to Chelsea.

The report claims that Spurs were considering a move for the 22-year-old on the back of his impressive finish to the 2022-23 campaign, with the forward ending the season with 13 goals and five assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Chelsea beat Tottenham to Nicolas Jackson signing

However, it is alleged that Chelsea have moved quickly to win the race for the player, with the deal described as being ’90 per cent done’.

The report alleges that the Blues have already agreed personal terms with Jackson and are now ready to meet his release clause, which stands at £34m.

It is explained that Ange Postecolgou’s men will be forced to turn their attention to other targets as the Senegal international looks set to complete a switch to Stamford Bridge.

Football Insider add that it is not just Spurs who had their eye on Jackson, with Aston Villa and Bournemouth also thought to have explored a deal for the Villarreal star this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Jackson is capable of playing on the flank, he is much more effective as a centre-forward, which is why it is puzzling why Spurs would have wanted him.

With Kane looking likely to stay and with Richarlison more than capable of playing as a number nine, Postecoglou is in more urgent need of wide-forwards.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has been offered to Bayern Munich.

Tottenham are thought to be prioritising a move for a left-sided centre-back this summer, with 90 min reporting last week that Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte and Wovles‘ Max Kilman are on the club’s radar.

Pau Torres

It was previously reported by Football Transfers last month that Spurs could battle Aston Villa and Juventus for Torres this summer.

The publication claimed that the Lilywhites had an offer turned down for the Spaniard last summer and could reignite their pursuit of the player once again.

Pau Torres has been offered to Bayern Munich

If Plettenberg’s latest update is to be believed, the Villarreal star has now been offered to Bayern.

However, the journalist adds while the 26-year-old is on the Bundesliga giants’ list, he is not their top choice and that negotiations are not advanced at the moment.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the centre-backs we have been linked with, it appears as if Spurs are prioritising someone with Premier League experience for the left centre-back role.

Among the names who have been mooted, Laporte is undoubtedly the one who best fits Postecoglou’s style of play.

Fichajes.net have claimed that Villarreal fear Tottenham might beat them to the signing of Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a new number one this summer, with Hugo Lloris confirming earlier this month that he is seeking a new challenge after 11 years at the North London club (Nice-Matin).

We covered a report from Football Insider last week, which claimed that while David Raya and Jordan Pickford are at the top of Spurs’ wishlist, the club are also eyeing Livakovic as a potential alternative.

Livakovic seen as attractive option for Tottenham

This has now been backed up by Fichajes, who state that the Croat, who was one of the best goalkeepers on show in last year’s World Cup, is an ‘attractive’ option to Tottenham.

The publication asserts that Villarreal have been contemplating a move for Livakovic for ‘some time’ but the Spanish club are ‘threatened’ by Spurs’ entry into the picture.

The report adds that Tottenham’s failure to qualify for Europe might give an advantage to the La Liga side, who would be able to offer Europa League football to the goalkeeper.

Spurs Web Opinion

Europa League football would not make Villarreal a more attractive destination that Spurs and there is no doubt that the Lilywhites would be able to blow the La Liga side out of the water financially.

However, it appears quite clear that Livakovic is not at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist, with David Raya seemingly the club’s preferred choice to take over the gloves from Lloris.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has no issue in returning to the club this summer, sources close to the player have exclusively told SpursWeb.

The midfielder spent the whole of last season on loan at Villarreal, which was his second stint at the La Liga club having originally moved to Spain for the second half of the 2021/2022 season and became a regular in the side during both spells.

The Evening Standard reported last August that Lo Celso was one of four Tottenham players who were banished from the first team by Antonio Conte last summer along with Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon after the first team squad returned to north London following their pre-season tour of South Korea.

Conte was said to have told the quartet that he was unable to work with them due to limitations on the number of players within his squad and had been training alone and at separate times from the rest of their team mates.

Telegraph reporter Matt Law yesterday claimed during an appearance on the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel that he had heard that Lo Celso was not keen on the idea of heading back to Tottenham.

Law said: “I think Lo Celso will go. From what I’m told, he does not really want to come back to Spurs.”

Lo Celso is happy to return to Spurs

Earlier today, we featured the Law’s update about Lo Celso on our Twitter account and were later told by well-placed sources to the player that it is incorrect and he has absolutely no issue in heading back to his parent club.

Tottenham appointed Ange Postecoglou as Conte’s successor earlier this week after the Italian departed N17 at the end of March following his explosive post-match comments about his squad in the aftermath of their 3-3 draw at Southampton.

Lo Celso’s loan at Villarreal has officially come to an end and is set to report back to the club’s Hotspur Way training facility in the coming weeks with the rest of the squad ahead of their pre-season campaign which will see them play friendlies in Australia, Thailand and Singapore against West Ham, Leicester City and Roma, respectively.

Spurs completed the signing of the 27-year-old from Real Betis in January 2020 for £27.2million (BBC), having originally joined on a season-long in August 2019 with Spurs holding the option to turn it into a permanent transfer.

Lo Celso featured 29 times for Villarreal last season across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists (transfermarkt).

SpursWeb Opinion

Regardless of where Giovani Lo Celso’s long-term future lies, there is absolutely no issue from the player’s perspective in heading back to Tottenham to work under Postecoglou and the new set up until he is told otherwise.

The 27-year-old finished the season strongly with Villarreal having battled back from a hamstring injury that required surgery in November and kept him out of Argentina’s successful World Cup campaign in Qatar last winter.

Relevo explain that the versatile attacker, who can play as a number eight or on either flank, has turned down multiple contract offers from Villarreal and has made up his mind to leave the club.

It is alleged that Chukwueze is keen on moving to England and that his agent is already speaking to Premier League clubs in an effort to organise a transfer.

So, Villarreal have allegedly informed Tottenham that they can sign the Nigerian international for Giovani Lo Celso plus cash as the La Liga club believe it would be the best option for them.

Releveo do not reveal the fee that the Yellow Submarine want over the Argentine for Chukwueze but they assert that Spurs are now ‘thinking about’ the offer.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Tottenham need reinforcements upfront, with  Lucas Moura and Arnaut Danjuma both having left.

So, the club would certainly consider this proposal from Villarreal. However, a decision cannot be made until a new manager and sporting director are appointed.

Tottenham Hotspur are not expected to take up the opportunity to sign Arnaut Danjuma on a permanent basis, according to the Evening Standard.

The Dutch international joined Tottenham on loan from Villarreal in January with the club having the option to make his move permanent for a £27million transfer fee.

Danjuma had looked set to join Everton in the winter transfer window and despite conducting media duties and a medical with the Goodison Park outfit ahead of an announcement, he pulled the plug on the transfer and headed to Hotspur Way instead (Daily Mail).

The 26-year-old only made one Premier League start during his time at Tottenham, which came under Ryan Mason in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford earlier this month which all but ended their hopes of Europa League qualification.

Danjuma took to his Instagram account to pen a message to Spurs fans earlier this week in which he admitted he had not had the opportunities that he had wished for at the club.

He said: “It is very difficult to sum up the season we’ve all had in words. Many highs and lows, yet I tried to give my all, anytime, at any moment for you all. An indifferent return to the Premier League for me. I’d be lying if I wasn’t disappointed with how the season ended for the club, the fans and me.

“I have proven and I know I have the ability to influence games and make a big impact, and if I could turn back the clocks and be given a chance to demonstrate that I would without question.

“Putting the frustration aside, I am very conscious of the welcome I have received by first and foremost the fans, whose continous support towards me has truly amazed me. Likewise, the welcoming from the club, players and staff has been a heartwarming pleasure to say the least.

“What is tomorrow worth, if it is the same as today? It is only through the hardships in life, we will be able to find ease. Thus, this is not a goodbye message. Never. The journey shared will live on in my mind, body and heart forever.

“This is to every fan who chanted my name, for every person who clapped their hands for me, for every kid who ran up to me for an autograph, THANK YOU 🤍 Until we meet again, in sha Allāh.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Danjuma got his Spurs career off to the best possible start when he scored late on his debut in the 3-0 FA Cup win against Preston North End, but was not really given a fair crack of the whip by Antonio Conte or Cristian Stellini.

If he had remained at Everton, he certainly would have got plenty of more opportunities to put himself in the shop window but obviously felt he could have made an impact at Spurs instead.

Tuttosport have claimed that Juventus believe they will win the race for Pau Torres’ signature despite the fact that Spurs are also interested in the centre-back.

Pau Torres is set to run into the final year of his contract at Villarreal in June (Tranfermarkt) and over recent weeks, multiple publications have talked up the chances of the centre-back leaving the La Liga club this summer.

Pau Torres

DAX Images/NurPhoto via Getty Images

One of those was Football Transfers, who reported at the start of this month that Tottenham are ready to reignite their interest in the Spaniard this summer after failing to with a move for him last year.

The publication asserted that the Lilywhites face competition from Juventus and Aston Villa for the centre-back’s services, with Unai Emery said to be keen on reuniting with the player at Villa Park.

TuttoMercatoWeb subsequently claimed a week later that Villarreal have informed clubs that the Spain international would cost €30m (£26.1m) this summer.

TuttoSport have offered an update on the race or Torres’ signature, explaining that Juve have been keen on the centre-back since last year.

The report adds that Tottenham have also ‘already looked at’ the Villarreal star and ‘could try again’ to snap him up this summer.

However, it is alleged that the Old Lady believe they can convince the 26-year-old to move to the Allianz Stadium even if they do not qualify for any other European competitions.

Spurs Web Opinion

I personally would prefer Piero Hincapie or Evan Ndicka to Torres as I am not convinced that the Spaniard would be able to cope with the physicality of the Premier League.

I am disappointed to see that Spurs are seemingly not advancing on a deal for Ndicka, given that the Frenchman is available on a free transfer.

Over the last few weeks, multiple outlets have backed Aston Villa to make a move for Lo Celso this summer.

The first of those came from The Daily Mail, who revealed on April 24 that the Midlands club had been impressed by the midfielder’s recent displays for Villarreal.

The publication claimed that Unai Emery wanted to work with the on-loan Tottenham man for a third time, having previously coached him at Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal.

This was subsequently backed up by Football.London, who reported recently that the Villans may face competition from the Yellow Submarine for the Argentine’s signature.

The report suggests that Tottenham would be open to cashing in on the midfielder as they are looking to recoup some money from his sale.

While Romano has now also suggested that Emery is keen on reuniting with Lo Celso, he added that the decision regarding the former Real Betis man could depend on the incoming head coach in N17.

When asked about Villa’s interest in the Spurs midfielder, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Aston Villa, there will be big investments.

“They want to do something important in the market and Lo Celso’s a player really, really appreciated by Unai Emery, so he’s on the list, for sure. But It depends also on Tottenham’s new coach.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think the incoming head coach would want to take a look at the likes of Winks, Lo Celso and Spence during pre-season before deciding whether they would fit his tactical set-up.

The Argentine also might perhaps want to try one last time to rescue his Tottenham career.

Cadena SER have revealed that Aston Villa do not just want to sign Giovani Lo Celso this summer but also want to beat Tottenham Hotspur to Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

The report explains that Unai Emery has his eye on a number of Villarreal players ahead of the summer transfer window, including both Lo Celso and Torres.

The publication states that the Spaniard’s interest in the midfielder and the centre-back is ‘beginning to border on obsession’.

Cadena SER reveal that both Villa and Tottenham have a ‘strong interest’ in Torres and that both Premier League clubs have already reached out to the 26-year-old’s representatives.

Both the North Londoners and the Midlands club are said to be willing to offer the defender a lucrative long-term deal and the player, who will enter the final year of his contract with Villarreal in June, is expected to make a decision on his future in the ‘coming weeks’.

The outlet also explains that ‘it is not clear’ if Villarreal plan on pursuing a permanent deal for Lo Celso and that the La Liga club’s decision might depend on whether or not they qualify for the Champions League.

Villa are said to be following the Argentine closely, thus further complicating matters for the Yellow Submarine.

Spurs Web Opinion

Torres’ stock is certainly not as high as it was a couple of years ago and I remain unconvinced about whether he is suited for the Premier League.

Much will also depend on Tottenham’s decision regarding Clement Lenglet and the decision is not likely to be made until a new head coach arrives through the door.

Villa’s interest in Lo Celso first came to light two weeks ago when  The Daily Mail reported that the Midlands club had been keeping a close eye on the Argentine’s performances since his return from injury and had been impressed by him.

The publication claimed that Unai Emery wanted to work with the on-loan Tottenham man for a third time, having previously coached him at Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal.

Villa’s interest in Lo Celso was also backed up by Fabrizio Romano, who took to social media a few days ago to reveal that Emery was ‘pushing’ for the 27-year-old to be signed.

The journalist also stated that the player would be keen on a switch to Villa Park this summer.

If Football.London’s latest update is to be believed, Villarreal are also expected to compete with the Premier League club for Lo Celso’s services this summer.

The report suggests that Tottenham would be open to cashing in on the midfielder and are looking to recoup some money from his sale.

Spurs Web Opinion

Among the players that we currently have out on loan, Lo Celso would likely be the one to attract the most interest this summer.

However, I also feel that he is the one player (other than Spence) who has the chance of rescuing his Spurs career and forcing himself into the plans of the next head coach.

So, perhaps Tottenham will wait until they bring a manager in before making a decision on the Argentine’s future.

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Villarreal have informed clubs that Tottenham target Pau Torres would cost €30m (£26m) this summer.

Torres is set to run into the final year of his contract at Villarreal in June (Tranfermarkt) and multiple publications this week have talked up the chances of the centre-back leaving the La Liga club this summer.

One of those was Football Transfers, who reported at the start of this week that Tottenham are ready to reignite their interest in the Spaniard this summer after failing to with a move for him last summer.

The publication asserted that the Lilywhites face competition from Juventus and Aston Villa for the centre-back’s services, with Unai Emery said to be keen on reuniting with the player at Villa Park.

The same three clubs were named as the leading contenders for Torres’ signature in Fichajes’ report on Tuesday, which asserted that Villarreal might be prepared to cash in on the defender as they are aware that tying him down to a new deal would prove difficult.

TMW have now explored Juventus’ pursuit of the centre-back, explaining that the negotiations have hit a hiccup since the Old Lady are uncertain if they would be able to pay €30m (£26m) for the 26-year-old.

The Italian outlet suggests that the Premier League thus looks like Torres’ most likely destination this summer, as things stand.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Tottenham are going to be in the market for a left-sided centre-back this summer as I do not expect the club to sign Leglet permanently.

However, I believe that the likes of Ndicka and Gvardiol would be better options to go for than Torres, who might struggle to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League.

Fichajes.net have now claimed that Villarreal might decide that this summer is the right time to cash in on Tottenham target Pau Torres.

We covered a report from Football Transfers earlier this week, which claimed that Tottenham are expected to reignite their interest in Torres this summer after having an offer of €48.5m (£42.6m) bid rejected by Villarreal for him around 12 months ago.

The publication asserted that Spurs could face competition from Juventus and Aston Villa for the 26-year-old, with Unai Emery said to be keen on reuniting with the player at Villa Park.

The exact same information has now also been reported by Fichajes, who name Tottenham, Villa and Juve as the three clubs who are currently keeping a close eye on Torres’ situation.

The report explains that the Spain international is set to enter the final year of his contract at El Madrigal this June and Villarreal have not ruled out the possibility of offering him a new deal.

However, the La Liga club are said to be aware that Torres might receive a tempting offer from elsewhere and may want to leave, which is why they are open to the possibility of cashing in on him.

Spurs Web Opinion

Torres is a talented defender and one can argue that he would be an upgrade on Lenglet but there is a possibility that he could struggle to cope with the physicality of the Premier League.

I personally think there are a lot more upsides to signing the likes of Josko Gvardiol and Even Ndicka compared to the Spaniard.

According to Football Transfers, even though the North London club are yet to appoint a new manager, they have already started scouring the market for a centre-back, with Torres said to be ‘highly rated’ by the club’s hierarchy.

It is explained that Spurs moved for the Spain international last summer but had a €48.5m (£42.6m) bid rejected by Villarreal.

The Lilywhites are said to continue to hold an interest in Torres and the La Liga are expected to accept a decent offer this summer as the defender will run into the final year of his contract in June.

However, Tottenham are not alone in their admiration of the Villarreal star, with Unai Emery said to be keen on reuniting with the player at Aston Villa while Juventus are also thought to be watching his situation.

Spurs Web Opinion

We should be able to blow Juventus out of the water financially, which makes Aston Villa our biggest threat in the race for Torres’ signature, particularly given the Unai Emery connection.

One would expect a move to Spurs to be more lucrative to the 26-year-old than a switch to Villa Park but the Midlands club could steal a march on us as we have no manager or director of football in place at the moment.

Giovani Lo Celso might have spent a significant amount of time on the treatment table this season but the midfielder is making up for lost time since his return to full fitness.

Lo Celso picked up yet another assist for Villarreal over the weekend, setting up Nicolas Jackson’s goal with a precise through ball as the Yellow Submarine emerged 3-1 winners over Celta Vigo.

However, Football.London reveal in their weekly loan update that Destiny Udogie had a game to forget over the weekend as he gave away the penalty which proved the difference between Lecce and Udinese on Friday.

Meanwhile, Harry Winks completed another 90 minutes for Sampdoria, who were thrashed 5-0 at Fiorentina, with the club now on the verge of relegation.

Bryan Gil made two appearances for Sevilla over the past few days, playing 45 minutes in their 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao last Thursday before completing 82 minutes in their 2-0 loss to Girona.

Football.London reveal that Tanguy Ndombele came on for the final minute in Napoili’s 1-1 draw at home with Salernitana while neither Joe Rodon nor Djed Spence featured in Rennes’ 4-2 win over Angers.

Meanwhile, Troy Parrott played 88 minutes as Preston fell to a 4-1 defeat at Bramall Lane on Saturday, with the striker being handed a rating of 5/10 by Lancashire Live, who wrote about the Tottenham man’s display:

“Looked annoyed with the decision-making from teammates in the first half, with him making runs but not receiving the ball. Had a couple of openings over the game, but couldn’t find the finish.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Lo Celso has been in excellent form since returning from his hamstring injury and is showing just why he is rated so highly by the Argentina set-up.

Out of all the players out on loan, perhaps he (along with Djed Spence) has the best chance of impressing the new Spurs head coach in pre-season and rescuing his Tottenham career.

Lo Celso picked up a hamstring injury back in October, which not only kept him out of Argentina’s historic World Cup campaign but also saw him miss several games for Villarreal since La Liga’s restart.

Giovani Lo Celso

The midfielder returned to full fitness at the start of this month and he was handed his first start in almost five months at the Santiago Bernabeu two weeks ago.

The on-loan Tottenham man played 67 minutes in that game as Villarreal emerged with a famous 3-2 win from the Spanish capital.

Lo Celso followed that up with his first full 90-minute appearance on Saturday in almost six months.

The 27-year-old did not show signs of too much rustiness and put in an accomplished display and he laid off the ball to former Spurs midfielder Etienne Capoue in the second half as the Frenchman rifled home a shot from outside the box.

However, Quique Setien’s side were unable to find a late equaliser, with Valladolid hanging on for all three points.

Spurs Web Opinion

Interestingly, Setien used Lo Celso as a false nine against Real Madrid but reverted him back to a midfield three on Saturday, with the on-loan Spurs man playing more of a box-to-box role.

One can argue that despite the 27-year-old obvious talent, he still has not found his best position.

The midfielder, who turned 27 on Sunday, returned to full fitness a couple of weeks ago and he was handed his first start in almost five months at the Santiago Bernabeu over the weekend.

The on-loan Tottenham man started as a false nine and put in an accomplished display, setting up Samu Chukwuese’s equaliser in the first half, with a nicely threaded pass.

Lo Celso played 67 minutes before being replaced by Jose Luis Morales, who got on the scoresheet just a few minutes after coming on as Villarreal picked up a famous 3-2 win at the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile, in other news regarding Tottenham’s players out on loan, Football.London revealed that Bryan Gil played 78 minutes in Sevilla 2-2 at home to Celta Vigo while Destiny Udogie played all 90 minutes in the Udinese’s 2-2 draw with Monza at home on Saturday.

Tanguy Ndombele was used as an impact substitute once again by Luciano Spalletti, with the midfielder coming for the final 24 minutes of Napoli’s 2-1 victory at Lecce.

Djed Spence and Joe Rodon played no part in Rennes’ 1-0 defeat to Lens on Saturday while Sergio Reguilon was an unused substitute for Atletico Madrid, who beat Rayo Vallecano 2-1.

Harry Winks made his 11th consecutive 90-minute appearance for Sampdoria, who fell to yet another loss at home, this time being beaten 3-2 by Cremonese.

Spurs Web Opinion

This performance would certainly boost Lo Celso’s confidence and Spurs will be hoping that the midfielder has a strong finish to the season.

Even if the Argentine is not in the next Spurs manager’s plans, one would expect several La Liga clubs, including potentially Villarreal themselves, to show interest in him in the summer.

According to El Periodico Mediterraneo, Tottenham Hotspur-owned midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is looking for ‘revenge’ as he searches for success in the last few months of the season with Villarreal.

Lo Celso signed for Tottenham back in 2019 from Real Betis, in a deal reportedly worth £55 million (Guardian).

The dynamic midfielder has never quite lived up to his promise in North London, with just eight goals and six assists across 84 appearances for Spurs (Transfermarkt).

Giovani Lo Celso

Catherine Ivill/Getty Images

The Argentina international has spent the season on loan with Villarreal but has only managed 16 appearances for the La Liga side (Transfermarkt).

Injury issues have decimated Lo Celso’s season out in Spain, and saw the 26-year-old miss the World Cup in Qatar, too.

Lo Celso has 41 caps for Argentina (Transfermarkt) and it’s very likely he would have added to that tally had injuries not kept him out of the squad for the tournament at the end of last year.

He had been a mainstay in the South American nation’s line-up until the injury took hold.

Now, the report from El Periodico Mediterraneo claims Lo Celso is ready and raring to go in the final months of the current campaign.

Apparently, the player wants his own form of “revenge” as he looks to overcome the “severe” physical and mental blows he has suffered over the last year.

Having missed out on a World Cup winner’s medal, Lo Celso is now determined to “win a title” with Villarreal, most specifically the Europa Conference League where the Spanish side are still competing.

The report states the player now believes his “time has come” to put things right.

Spurs Web Opinion

I wish Lo Celso all the success out there with Villarreal.

It must have been so difficult to see his country win the World Cup without him, and he must be desperate to get out on the pitch and win a trophy to make up for it.

I’m not sure if he has a future at Spurs, but we still want to see a Tottenham player thrive in some way, shape, or form.
