The Evening Standard have revealed that Gareth Bale could sign a short-term contract with a new club until the World Cup in November should Wales qualify for the competition.
Bale’s current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu runs out in the summer (Transfermarkt) and it was reported last month that the winger could return to Tottenham for a third spell next season (El Nacional).
The 32-year-old was once again the hero for Wales last week as they overcame Austria 2-1 to set up a playoff against Ukraine for a place in the World Cup in Qatar.
The Evening Standard have now stated that should Wales beat Ukraine, the former Tottenham winger could sign a short-term deal with a new club until the World Cup and announce his retirement immediately after the competition.
Should Wales fail to make it to Qatar, it is asserted that the Real Madrid star would consider hanging up his boots this summer.
However, the report adds that Bale is not thought to consider a third spell at Spurs as an option at the moment.

Bale showed against Austria that he can still be an asset to any side when he is fit and motivated to perform. It is quite sad that his fairytale return to Spurs did not go according to plan last season, even though the 32-year-old did quite well when opportunities came his way.
