Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has claimed that Ben Davies will still be at the club next season, despite reports of the north Londoners searching for a new signing in his position.
Davies has been given a new lease of life at Tottenham under Antonio Conte in his new role on the left side of a central defensive back three.
The former left-back has slotted in comfortably next to Eric Dier and Cristian Romero to form a very solid base, however, with no other left-footed centre-backs, Spurs are said to be looking to bolster their options.
It has been reported that the club are proritising a move for a left-sided defender this summer, with The Athletic claiming RB Leipzig stopper Josko Gvardiol and Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan are at the top of their shopping list, while there is also interest in Lille’s Sven Botman and Nico Schlotterbeck of Freiberg.
Bridge told GiveMeSport: “Ben Davies has done really well. He will be at Tottenham next season without a shadow of a doubt, he can play at left-back and left centre-back.”
SpursWeb’s opinion
Ben Davies has resurrected his career remarkably and it is excellent to see him in such good form. However, it is difficult not to see him as an area where Spurs can improve.
It is likely that the Welshman will remain as competition to a new signing as well as at left wing-back. Davies has been extremely professional as a backup in the past and will always be ready when called upon next season.
Bridge made a good point by highlighting Davies’ versability, which gives him opportunities to get game time in two positions or in the event of a formation change.
