Antonio Conte has revealed that Rodrigo Bentancur is ‘so close’ to making a return for Spurs following the injury he picked up for Uruguay at the Qatar World Cup.

Spurs have been without their main midfield creator since the Premier League restart, with Conte switching between all three of Oliver Skipp, Yves Bissouma, and Pape Matar Sarr to partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in his absence.

In the North London Derby today, despite coming out on the losing side, Sarr put in a rather Bentancur-like performance in the way that he controlled the ball and picked progressive passes.

However, it appears that Spurs fans won’t have to wait too long before seeing the real deal in action once more, as Conte revealed the South American is close to making his return. He also admitted that he took a risk playing Kulusevski so early today but clearly deemed it a necessary one.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think Spurs with Kulusevski, Bentancur, and Romero all in the starting XI are a completely different animal to when even one of them is missing. Unfortunately, at least one of them has been absent for the vast majority of the season, but it will be nice to have all three playing again soon.
