Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach, Cristian Stellini, has provided an update on Rodrigo Bentancur after the midfield picked up a nasty injury against Leicester City today.
The Uruguayan started the game in perfect fashion, putting Spurs 1-0 up when he reacted first to a deflected ball across the face of the Leicester goal. However, while Bentancur continued to be Spurs’ best performer, the game quickly ran away from the Lilywhites.
To make matters even worse, the goalscorer picked up a nasty injury in the second half when he seemed to extend his left knee when competing for the ball. Bentancur went down in a lot of pain and seemed to be given some adrenaline/pain relief on the pitch.
The stretcher was called, but Bentancur managed to hobble off and even seemed to think about playing on before Conte subbed on Pape Matar Sarr.
When asked to comment, Stellini admitted that Bentancur is in a lot of pain but they will know more in the next few days.
He said (Football London): “He feels a lot of pain but he can walk and it’s important that he was able to walk back to the bench. We’ll check how he is and we’ll know more in a few days.”
