According to The Metro Mauricio Pochettino says he will allow Son Heung-min to take penalties in the future despite the Korean’s spot-kick being ruled out for unsporting behaviour against Rochdale.
The article describes a confusing first half at Wembley, where we had two goals chalked off as VAR caused chaos, with Son giving away a free-kick for allegedly feinting during his penalty run-up against the League One minnows.
However, Pochettino felt Son’s action was not illegal and will not ban him from taking penalties, though Harry Kane is still his No.1.
The Argentine tactician told reporters afterwards: ‘I think you cannot stop in the last step, that is the rule. But when I watch on the TV, I think he does not completely stop, he moves but too slow.
He added: “Look, it’s difficult to say if it’s a foul or not, if it was right or wrong. My opinion was goal, and right. Like in the Lamela goal, which for me wasn’t a foul.
‘But who judges this? For me it should be the referee, but then we stop for two minutes and some people from outside judge this. I don’t know, it’s so, so, so difficult. But OK, move on”
Pochettino was asked if Son will be allowed to take penalties in the future, to which Pochettino continued: ‘Of course, because I think for me it was a goal and he shoot the penalty very good.
‘But it is true with Harry on the pitch, he is going to struggle to take them!’
