Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol recenty had huge words of praise for Tottenham-bound Luka Vuskovic.

According to various reports, Tottenham are expected to win the race for Vuskovic, with the North London club set to agree a £12m deal with Hajduk Split before loaning the defender back to the Croatian side until 2025, when he turns 18 (Evening Standard).

There is plenty of excitement surrounding Spurs’ impending capture of the 16-year-old, who is rated by many as the best centre-back in his age group, with several Premier League sides, including  Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United all previously credited with an interest in the teenager (Daily Mail).

It was reported by Calciomercato a couple of days ago that Tottenham had even seen off competition from Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan to land the youngster.

It turns out that Gvardiol, who completed a £77.6m switch to Man City last month, is big fan of the emerging young centre-back.

The City star told Index back in March about Vuskovic: “I saw him, I’m glad he’s developing like that. I hope he’ll develop into a top stopper, he has everything to become one of the best.

“It’s up to him to work. He has a brother who has done great things. He doesn’t need much advice from me, he knows everything. I would love to play together one day.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Vuksovic seems to have been widely tipped to become the next big thing in Croatian football. However, there are no guarantees with young players that they will reach their full potential, which is why Spurs fans would need to temper their expectations for the time being.

According to Bild, Tottenham Hotspur have not yet given up on their pursuit of RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol.

Gvardiol and his Leipzig teammates endured a difficult evening on Tuesday at the Etihad, with Manchester City thrashing them 7-0 in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie.

Bild state that despite the hammering, several Premier League clubs, including City themselves, continue to have the Croat on their wishlist.

The report names Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea as the three other clubs from the English top flight who remain keen on the 21-year-old.

The publication reveals that Gvardiol has a €112m (£98.3m) release clause in his contract, which will become active at the end of 2023.

However, it is explained that the centre-back is keen on departing the Red Bull Arena at the end of the current season and that the Bundesliga club would be prepared to accept a fee of around €100m (£87.7m) for the player in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot see Tottenham spending the best part of £100m, which is likely to be the majority of our summer transfer budget, on a single player.

So, I suspect the club have already started looking beyond Gvardiol and to other left centre-back options such as Evan Ndicka and Piero Hincapie.

Bild journalist Christian Falk has said that Manchester City and Chelsea are more likely to land Josko Gvardiol in the summer transfer window  compared to Tottenham’s chances

Gvardiol has been linked with a number of clubs, including Spurs, over recent months and the speculation shows no signs of slowing down as the summer transfer window nears.

The Times were the latest to report on Tottenham’s pursuit of the Croat, stating earlier this month that the North London club remain keen on landing the 21-year-old on the back of his impressive displays at the World Cup.

However, the publication stated that Antonio Conte‘s men were trailing their London rivals, Chelsea, in the race for the RB Leipzig star.

The report also added that Gvardiol is keen on plying his trade in the Premier League and would be keen on a switch to England in the summer.

However, Falk has now revealed that it would take a bid of €100m (£88m) to prise the centre-back away from the Red Bull Arena and suggested that City and Chelsea are more likely to put that money on the table than Spurs are.

When asked about Gvardiol’s future, the journalist told CaughtOffside: “Manchester City are not the favourites, but of course, Pep Guardiola’s men have a good chance when it comes to the race for Josko Gvardiol. That being said, one can’t ignore Chelsea either.”

“Both clubs have the advantage over Liverpool and Tottenham, ultimately because the side that offers €100m in the summer will have the best chance of getting Gvardiol and, as many are more than aware, City and Chelsea have the money to fund such a deal.

“The important thing to note is that Gvardiol wants to leave in the summer if an opportunity in the Premier League arises. It doesn’t matter that his release clause (€112m) is only valid in 2024.

“Put simply, the Croatian won’t accept Leipzig stopping his potential exit should an offer of €100m come through the door. He wants to go to the Premier League, preferably this summer rather than the next, despite signing a new contract until 2027.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If the manager who replaces Conte prefers to play with a back four, then a left centre-back may not be as big a priority next summer.

I suspect that Fabio Paratici will bring in a coach who plays with a central defensive back three. Either way, it is clear that Tottenham are not going to get involved in a bidding war for Gvardiol.

However, it is explained that the North London club are now trailing the Blues in the race for the 21-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is explained that the two London clubs would have to sign the Leipzig star this summer if they are to avoid paying a £97m release clause, which will kick in from the start of 2024.

The Times assert that Gvardiol wants to ply his trade in the Premier League next season and that the player has been on Chelsea’s radar since the age of 17.

Finally, the publication also reveals that Todd Boehly held talks with Leipzig for the centre-back last summer but pulled out from the deal since the £70m fee they were quoted at the time was excessive.

Spurs Web Opinion

If it is a two-horse race between us and Chelsea for Gvardiol, we could have an advantage since we might have Champions League football to offer.

However, I expect a lot more of Europe’s big hitters, including Real Madrid, to get involved in the race for the 21-year-old, and I doubt if Spurs would get into a bidding war for the Leipzig star.

RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose has dismissed the speculation over the future of rumoured Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol, insisting that he expects the centre-back to still be at the Red Bull Arena next season.

Gvardiol was already seen as one of the best young defenders in world football in light of his displays for Leipzig over the last 18 months and his reputation has blossomed even further on the back of his showing for Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar.

World Cup

However, that is seemingly not good news for Tottenham, with CalcioMercato.it reporting earlier this month that Leipzig’s valuation of the centre-back has now increased to €110m (£98m), suggesting that he might now be too expensive for the North London club.

The publication further added that Gvardiol is at the top of Real Madrid’s wishlist and that moving to the Santiago Bernabeu is the defender’s number one preference.

The 21-year-old seemingly offered Spurs a lifeline by admitting in an interview with The Times earlier this week that he wants to play in the Premier League.

However, Rose has now insisted that a transfer is not imminent for the Croat, remaking that he remains happy at the Bundesliga club.

The Leipzig boss said (via TV2 Sport journalist Arilas Ould-Saada): “Josko Gvardiol will be a RB Leipzig player next season as well. I am the coach and I am asking for that. He is happy here. He said he wants to play in the Premier League, but he didn’t say when.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Leipzig are not a club who are easy to negotiate with as Spurs and other clubs who tried to sign Gvardiol found out last summer.

However, I am convinced that one of Europe’s big hitters will break the bank for the 21-year-old next summer.

Tottenham are certainly not going to be the club to do that, given the kind of transfer fees being mooted for the centre-back.

RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham since last summer’s transfer window, has admitted his desire to play in the Premier League.

Gvardiol was thought to be one of Spurs’ top targets for the left centre-back role last summer (Football.London) but the Croat ended up staying put at Leipzig, with the North London club snapping up Clement Lenglet on loan instead.

The centre-back’s value has undoubtedly skyrocketed in light of his impressive showing in the Bundesliga this season as well as his accomplished displays for Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar.

CalcioMercato.it reported earlier this month that while the 21-year-old is still on Tottenham’s radar, he might be financially out of reach for the Lilywhites, with Leipzig said to value him at a whopping €110m (£98m).

The report further revealed that Real Madrid is Gvardiol’s preferred destination and added that the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United also have their eyes on the centre-back.

The Leipzig star has now explained how Leeds wanted him before he made the switch to the Bundesliga, and admitted his desire to play in England.

Gvardiol told The Times: “I had two options, between Leeds and Leipzig. [Marcelo] Bielsa was the coach and I don’t know if you know this but my goal in my career is to play in the Premier League.

“I didn’t speak with Bielsa but of course, he sends a few people and they came to Zagreb. I met these guys and they show me it was something like a plan for how they see me in their style of football.

“I mean, when they presented it everything looked good and you could maybe see yourself there at that moment.

“I knew that I needed to take a few steps more before I get [to the Premier League] one day. At the end, Leipzig is a really good club and I feel good here. It’s important I play almost every game.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have a feeling that the Tottenham hierarchy would have already started looking past Gvardiol and towards more realistic targets such as Alessandro Bastoni, Piero Hincapie and Even Ndicka.

There is little value for money in the deal if it is true that Leipzig want £100m for the Croat.

The Daily Mail have now played down Tottenham’s chances of snapping up Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar or Josko Gvardiol in the summer.

The report explains that the Inter Milan duo and the RB Leipzig star are on Spurs’ wishlist ahead of the summer transfer window, with Antonio Conte’s men expected to be in the market for two central defenders.

However, the publication states that all three deals will be ‘difficult to pull off’ for the Lilywhites.

This report comes on the back of an update by Gazzetta Dello Sport a couple of days ago which claimed that Inter are having some hiccups in their effort to tie Bastoni down to a new contract, with the 23-year-old’s current deal running until 2024.

The Italian publication stated that the Italy international is demanding a salary of around €5m-€5.5m (£4.4m-£4.8m) to sign on the dotted line but the Nerrazurri are only willing to offer him €4m (£3.5m) plus bonuses at the moment owing to their financial constraints.

Meanwhile, multiple sources over the last week have reported that Skriniar is expected to sign for Paris Saint-Germain when his contract at Inter runs out in June (Inter Live).

Spurs Web Opinion

Gvardiol is evidently out of Tottenham’s reach as the Croat’s value has skyrocketed following his showing in the World Cup while Skriniar seems to be bound for PSG.

Bastoni is the only centre-back out of those who is a realistic target for Spurs and a move for the 23-year-old will depend on whether he pens a new contract with Inter over the coming months.

Gvardiol would fit the bill for the former and CalcioMercato.it have now suggested that Antonio Conte’s men are one of several clubs who have their eyes on the Croat.

The report states that the defender is expected to leave Leipzig to ‘make the leap to a top European club’ next summer, with Real Madrid being his preferred destination.

However, it is explained that Los Blancos might find it difficult to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga club, who are thought to value the centre-back at a whopping €110m (£98m).

The publication adds Gvardiol could thus end up in the Premier League, with Spurs, Liverpool and Manchester United said to be interested in the player.

There is some doubt expressed if a move to Tottenham is on the cards for the 21-year-old, with the report stating that ‘Levy doesn’t usually spend crazy money’.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is absolutely no chance of Spurs spending around £100m (which would be the majority of our summer transfer budget) on one player as that is not the club’s business model.

I expect us to prioritise moves for cheaper alternatives such as Bastoni, Ndicka or Hincapie instead of the Leipzig star.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to sign two centre-backs next summer and named some of the defenders on Antonio Conte’s current shortlist.

Bild reported on Sunday that Spurs had submitted a verbal offer of €25m (£21.9m) to Bayer Leverkusen for Piero Hincapie while  Nicolo Schira revealed on the same day that the Ecuadorian had even agreed to a five-year contract with the North London club.

Gold has now revealed that Tottenham will look to sign one left-sided centre-back and another right-sided one during the summer transfer window, naming Alessandro Bastoni, Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol as names on the club’s wishlist.

When asked which other central defenders apart from Hincapie Spurs will target in the summer, the journalist responded in a Q&A on Football.London: “Alessandro Bastoni is the obvious one with Tottenham having been so keen last summer and much will depend on whether Inter can tie him down to a longer contract beforehand.

“Spurs have long liked Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace, although there will be plenty of competition for the England international.

“It’s no secret the man on top of Tottenham’s centre-back wish list has been Josko Gvadiol but the big spending likes of City and Chelsea are also interested which makes that an incredibly difficult one to do without being gazumped.

“There is interest in Hincapie, and Spurs are looking for two new centre-backs in the summer, one for the left and one for the centre/right, so we will see what that eventually brings.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Gvardiol will likely be out of our reach as there will be a massive bidding war for the Leipzig star next summer.  I thought until recently that Bastoni would be our top target for the left centre-back role but reports over the last few weeks have seemingly suggested that Tottenham are laying the groundwork to snap up Hincapie instead.

Rumoured Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol has now confirmed that he has no plans to leave RB Leipzig during the current transfer window.

Gvardiol was reported to be one of Spurs’ top targets for the left centre-back role in the summer (Football.London) but Antonio Conte’s men signed Clement Lenglet on loan instead, with the Croat staying put at Leipzig.

Some reports over recent months had backed Tottenham to reignite their interest in the 20-year-old in January (Tuttosport) but the youngster’s performances for Croatia at the World Cup seem to have attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

In fact, journalist Alfredo Pedulla stated a couple of weeks ago that Manchester City were ready to offer a whopping €130m (£113.5m) for Gvardiol, and could hand the player a salary of around €12m (£10.4) per season.

However, Leipzig sporting director Max Ebert told Sky Germany on Saturday that the Bundesliga club have ‘zero’ interest in selling the Croat. Gvardiol himself has now declared that he is happy to remain at the Red Bull Arena for the time being.

The centre-back told Sky Germany journalist Philipp Hinze: “My plan is that I stay here. I think everyone has seen Max Eberl’s statement. I’m okay with that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Whether Gvardiol leaves in January or next summer, it is clear that he is no longer a realistic target for Spurs as he seems to be at the top of many clubs’ wishlists. Rather than getting involved in a bidding war for the 20-year-old, I expect us to turn our attention to either Alessandro Bastoni or Piero Hincapie next summer.

According to a report in Bild (06/01/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham remain keen on snapping up Josko Gvardiol next summer despite RB Leipzig putting a mammoth price tag on the centre-back’s head.

It seemed like Tottenham’s hopes of snapping up Gvardiol had evaporated on the back of his impressive displays at the World Cup, which allegedly piqued the interest of Europe’s big hitters.

Alfredo Pedulla revealed last month that Real Madrid and Manchester City were both eyeing the Leipzig star, with the journalist stating that Pep Guardiola’s men were willing to offer a whopping €130m (£113.5m) for the 20-year-old’s services.

However, Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas insisted last week on the Last Word on Spurs’ YouTube channel that the Croat remains on Tottenham’s radar and suggested that the North London club could reignite their interest in the defender next summer.

Bild have now reported something similar, stating that Tottenham ‘want’ Gvardiol next summer and are battling Chelsea for the centre-back’s signature.

The German outlet reveals that Leipzig want a whopping €80-€100m (£70.2m-£87.8m) for the Croat in the summer and suggests that Antonio Conte’s men could potentially raise such a fee by cashing in on Harry Kane.

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot see Spurs shelling out £85m on one player as that simply is not part of the club’s business model. I expect the North London club to pull out all stops to sign Alessandro Bastoni next summer, given that the Inter star will probably cost half of what Gvardiol would.

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have not abandoned their pursuits of Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni or RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.

Both Bastoni and Gvardiol were thought to be near the top of Spurs’ wishlist for a left-sided centre-back in the summer (Football.London) but the North London club were not able to get a deal for either player over the line.

The Inter star’s agent declared during the summer that his client wanted to remain at the San Siro (Football Italia), with Antonio Conte’s men snapping up Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal instead.

Spurs’ pursuit of Gvardiol appears to have become complicated after the Croat’s impressive showing at the World Cup, with Alfredo Pedulla revealing last month that Manchester City were ready to offer a whopping €130m (£113.5m) for the Leipzig star.

The Daily Express reporter Ryan Taylor said a couple of weeks ago that Tottenham have accepted defeat in their pursuit of the 20-year-old (GiveMeSport).

However, this claim has now been contradicted by Thomas, who said in an interview with Last Word on Spurs’ YouTube channel that both Gvardiol and Bastoni remain top targets for the club.

The journalist suggested that the Lilywhites could reignite their interest in both players next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gvardiol is evidently out of our reach as Spurs are not going to get involved in a bidding war with the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid for the Leipzig star.

Bastoni seems like a more realistic target but it remains to be seen whether the centre-back would want to leave Inter. I suspect Tottenham are looking at the likes of Piero Hincapie and Evan N’dicka as backups to the Italian.

90 min have claimed that Chelsea are set to abandon their pursuit of rumoured Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol ahead of January and turn their attention to Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile instead.

It was 90 min who reported two weeks ago that Chelsea had the upper hand over the likes of Spurs, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Manchester City in the race for Gvaridol.

Fabio Paratici

The report explained that this was because Graham Potter’s men want to sign the 20-year-old next month while the other clubs are only interested in summer deals, which is why the Blues were ‘confident’ of winning the race for the Croat.

However, the same publication has now offered an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Gvardiol explaining that their discussions with Leipzig over the centre-back have proven ‘fruitless’.

It is explained that this is because the defender’s stock has risen considerably after the World Cup and the Bundesliga side would thus be happy to wait until next summer to sell the player.

Potter’s men are said to be keen for immediate reinforcements to their backline, which is why they have now turned their attention to Badiashile instead.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Gvardiol has proven to be too expensive for Chelsea, the likelihood of Spurs winning the race for the Croat is minimal. The North London club will likely focus all their efforts on trying to secure Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan next summer.

The report states that Spurs, Liverpool and Manchester United are following the centre-back’s situation while Real Madrid and Manchester City have both spoken with Leipzig but it is Chelsea who are said to be the frontrunners for the player’s signature.

This is because Graham Potter’s men want to sign the 20-year-old next month while the other five clubs are only interested in summer deals.

90 min add that Chelsea are ‘confident’ of winning the race for Gvardiol’s signature as the West London club have continued to hold talks with Leipzig about the defender since the summer.

The Blues are now allegedly looking to wrap up a deal for the Croat ‘as soon as possible’ after snapping up Christopher Nkunku from the Red Bull Arena.

Spurs Web Opinion

Any chance that Spurs had of winning the race for Gvardiol have likely ended on the back of his showing in Qatar. His value is now likely in the £80m-£100m range, which is not something Tottenham will pay. I suspect the North London club’s full attention will turn to Alessandro Bastoni ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

Some reports over recent weeks had backed Tottenham to reignite their interest in the 20-year-old in January (Tuttosport) but the youngster’s performances for Croatia at the World Cup seem to have attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

In fact, journalist Alfredo Pedulla stated last week that Manchester City are ready to offer a whopping €130m (£113.5m) for Gvardiol, and could hand the player a salary of around €12m (£10.4) per season.

Taylor has now stated Tottenham accepted even back in the summer that the Leipzig star was out of their price range.

He told GiveMeSport regarding Gvardiol: “I think there was an acceptance last summer that he was already out of Spurs’ price range because Chelsea had a proposal worth about €80 million rejected by Leipzig, which included him spending a year back on loan at the club, so he’s out of Spurs’ league.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs were never going to get into a bidding war with the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Real Madrid for Gvardiol. I believe Alessandro Bastoni will likely be the North London club’s top target for next summer as the Inter star is the next best option for the left centre-back role.

While for some, the lasting images of the Croat at the World Cup will be the way Lionel Messi twisted and turned him in the semi-final, the 20-year-old has undoubtedly been one of the best defenders across the tournament.

He even headed home in the third-place play-off today, assisted by none other than Tottenham’s very own Ivan Perisic.

Until last month, some publications had backed Spurs to make a move for Gvardiol (Tuttosport) but unsurprisingly, reports over recent weeks have indicated that a whole host of European giants are eyeing a move for the Leipzig star (Foot Mercato).

Journalist Alfredo Pedulla even asserted a few days ago that Manchester City are ready to offer a whopping €130m (£113.5m) for the centre-back, and could hand the player a salary of around €12m (£10.4) per season.

One would assume that those sorts of figures would rule Tottenham out of the race for Gvardiol but Ambrose has not yet given hope that his beloved Spurs will sign the defender, admitting that he would love to see the Leipzig star partner Cristian Romero at the back.

The former Charlton midfielder told talkSPORT: “I think he’s (Gvardiol) been a sensation and I look at where he plays in terms of centre-half and then I look at my team and Spurs what they need. They’ve got Romero but they need another centre-half. I’d be going all out to get this guy.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no way that Tottenham would get involved in a bidding war for Gvardiol with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City. I expect the North London club to do everything in their power to convince Alessandro Bastoni to make the switch from Inter Milan next summer.

Over recent weeks, reports have credited Spurs with an interest in Gvardiol (Tuttosport) but the North London club seemingly have plenty of competition for the centre-back, who is also allegedly on the radars of ManUnited, Man City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Juventus (Foot Mercato).

Pedulla has now revealed that Real Madrid and Man City are at the front of the queue for the RB Leipzig star, with the latter set to blow the former out of the water.

The journalist explains that Madrid were ready to offer Leipzig €90m (£78.6m) and informed Gvardiol they will give up him a contract worth €6m (£5.2m) per season, with the 20-year-old said to be open to a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, he adds that Man City have now told the player, as well as the Bundesliga club, that they are ready to offer substantially more. The reigning Premier League Champions are allegedly willing to pay €130m (£113.5m) for the Croat and offer him double the salary that Los Blancos are.

Pedulla adds that City remain in close contact with Leipzig and the two clubs could agree on a deal that would see Gvardiol swap the Red Bull Arena for the Etihad next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gvardiol’s value has understandably skyrocketed after the World Cup, and any hopes that Tottenham had of winning the race for the Croat has now dissipated.

The North London club will likely focus all their efforts on snapping up Alessandro Bastoni next summer after failing to get a deal for the Italian over the line during the previous transfer window.

Former Liverpool defender Igor Biscan has advised Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol not to make a move to the Premier League so soon in his career.

Despite being 20 years of age, Gvardiol is already seen by many as being one of the best young centre-backs in world football, owing to his brilliant displays for RB Leipzig over the last 18 months.

Premier League Trophy

The centre-backs’ stock has grown even further on the back of his displays at the World Cup although he was left exposed by a moment of magic from Lionel Messi in Croatia’s semi-final loss to Argentina.

Tuttosport reported last month that Tottenham and Chelsea are battling it out for Gvardiol’s signature ahead of the January transfer window.

However, over recent days, the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Juventus, have also been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old (Foot Mercato).

Biscan believes that the Leipzig star needs to wait another year or so before making a switch to English football.

The 44-year-old, who is currently the manager of Croatia’s Under-21s, told The Atheltic about Gvardiol: “I believe maybe it’s too early to go (to the Premier League) now.

“Take Kalidou Koulibaly, he’s regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, but he’s still trying to find his way in the Premier League. It’s a completely different environment.

“He’s still a little bit too young for me to be sure he’s an instant success. Maybe he needs to wait for a year or so to be ready.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe that Gvardiol is Premier League bound as the English clubs will likely be able to blow the others out of the water financially. However, I would be surprised if Spurs got involved in a bidding war with the likes of Chelsea and Man City for the 20-year-old.

A new report from Foot Mercato claims three Premier League clubs have made a bid to sign Croatia star Josko Gvardiol, but Tottenham Hotspur are not one of them.

The 20-year-old defender joined RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 and has developed into one of the most accomplished young centre-backs in world football since. With that, he has also become one of the most sought-after players across Europe.

Premier League

His impressive displays at club level have been supplemented by a growing reputation on the international stage, too. Gvardiol made his breakthrough with Croatia at Euro 2020 and has built on that at the 2022 World Cup.

He now has 17 caps to his name for Croatia (Transfermarkt) and has been one of the stand-out performers in Qatar.

According to Tuttosport, it is Chelsea and Spurs who are battling it out for Gvardiol’s signature, while 90Min believe the Blues have the upper hand in the race. The race is wide open, though, if you believe Fabrizio Romano on the matter.

By the sounds of the latest from Foot Mercato, the fight to sign Gvardiol is much bigger than first thought, with multiple clubs believed to be chasing the young star.

Apparently, Chelsea have made an offer for Gvardiol ahead of the January transfer window, as have the two Manchester clubs. It is reported that City’s €100 million (£86 million) offer is the highest of the three at this stage.

The queue doesn’t end there, though, with the report also claiming top European clubs such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Juventus are tracking Gvardiol’s status.

Spurs Web Opinion

I fear we have missed the boat on this one already, and every time Gvardiol puts in a top performance, he is making it more and more difficult for Spurs to compete in the race to sign him. He would be my number-one choice to improve our centre-back position, but I just can’t see it happening now with so many top clubs in the running.

90 min claimed last week that the Blues had the upper hand in the race for the RB Leipzig star, explaining that Graham Potter’s men were ‘optimistic’ about getting the deal for the centre-back over the line.

This was subsequently contradicted by Fabrizio Romano, who stated on his YouTube channel earlier this week that despite Chelsea being in talks with Leipzig, the race for the 20-year-old remains wide open.

Gvardiol’s agent Marjan Sisic himself confirmed Romano’s assertion by telling Florian Plettenberg on Monday that he does not have any agreement regarding a transfer and that his client is not in a hurry to leave the Red Bull Arena.

Jones has now said that Paratici can send a message to their London rivals by beating them to the Leipzig star.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “If Paratici could convince Gvardiol to join Spurs ahead of Chelsea then he deserves, at the very least, a pat on the back. It would be a serious statement signing from Tottenham if they could get that one over the line.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs finish in the top four this season and Chelsea do not (which is very much possible), then the Lilywhites would be the more attractive destination for Gvardiol, particularly given Antonio Conte’s pull. So, there is no reason we cannot win the race for the Croat in the summer.
