Spurs fans may not want to think about it right now, but they may be in the market for a centre-back come the summer, as Alderweireld’s contract ticks down.

Tottenham extended the Belgian’s deal by a year this season, but that means he will be available for just £25m in the summer.

If he does leave, it will be a mighty big hole for the Lilywhites to fill, even if they do have some quality replacements already at the club.

Jan Vertonghen also only has one extra year on his contract after this season, and Spurs may have to start thinking about the long term.

SkySports have now reported that Tottenham and Arsenal are both monitoring 25-year-old centre-back Matthias Ginter from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Bundesliga man already has 23 caps for Germany, and Spurs have been linked with him in the past, according the Sky.

Should Spurs move for a new central defender in the summer, or make do with what they have and invest in attacking options?
