Borussia Monchengladbach assistant manager Oliver Neuville has admitted that the chances of Tottenham target Marcus Thuram staying put at the Bundesliga club are quite slim.

The speculation over Thuram’s future has been building towards a crescendo ahead of the January transfer window, which is understandable given that the forward’s current contract runs out at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).

Nicolo Schira revealed earlier this week that Gladbach are willing to sell the winger for just €10m (£8.6m) in January in order to avoid losing him on a free in the summer.

Gazzetta (17/11/22 via Sport Witness) claimed that week that Tottenham, as well as their North London rivals Arsenal, are ‘working on the operation’ to sign Thuram in January.

The report further explained that the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus, Inter Milan and Marseille are also in the mix for the 25-year-old’s signature, while it has emerged over recent days (The Sun) that Newcastle United are also eyeing a move for the Frenchman in January.

Neuville has now admitted that it might not be realistic to expect Gladbach to hold on to the former Guingamp man, given the heights he has reached this season.

When asked about the speculation over Thuram’s future, the Bundesliga club’s assistant manager told Radio Sportiva: “He’s having an amazing season. He’s scored a lot of goals.

“I think it will be difficult for him to stay at Gladbach. If he continues to score so many goals, it’s certain he’ll have many offers from Italy, Spain and England. We must also be a little realistic.

“I hope he will still be here for a long time in Monchengladbach. But now he’s been called up by French for the World Cup, it will be difficult for him to extend. I hope (he stays). But the chances are slim.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Gladbach will have no choice but to cash in on Thuram in January if he does not sign a new contract. It is anybody’s guess where the 25-year-old will end up, given the amount of interest he seems to be generating around Europe.

If Thuram does come to the Premier League, I suspect he would opt to join Newcastle as not only can the Magpies offer him a lucrative salary but he is also more likely to get regular game time at St James’ Park than at Spurs or Arsenal.

The Telegraph have revealed that Dele Alli could be heading to the Bundesliga when the transfer window reopens in January.

Despite Antonio Conte speaking in glowing terms about Alli’s talent upon arriving at Spurs, the midfielder is yet to start a single Premier League game under the Italian.

It emerged on Monday that the Spurs head coach has given the club the green light to move the former MK Dons man on in January.

It was explained Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would ideally want a transfer fee for the midfielder but a loan move with an obligation or option to buy is also a possibility.

The Telegraph have now revealed several clubs have already registered an interest in Alli ahead of the January transfer window. The report states that Newcastle want to snap up the Spurs midfielder on loan.

In addition, it is stated that Alli is also attracting interest from Germany and that the 25-year-old would be open to moving abroad to resurrect his career.

Spurs Web Opinion

The Bundesliga might suit Dele quite well given that it is one of the few leagues in Europe where number tens like the Spurs man still continue to thrive. His physicality and athleticism would hold him in good stead in Germany.

In addition, I feel playing at a team like Bayer Leverkusen or RB Leipzig, who create a lot of chances, would be a better fit for Dele than sides like Everton or Newcastle, who defend with men behind the ball.

Reported Tottenham target, Robin Koch is ready to leave his current club Freiburg this summer as he will not be renewing his contract with the Bundesliga side.

Kicker have reported that Koch wants a new challenge and is not short of suitors, putting the pressure on Freiburg to sell up or risk losing him for free.

It was reported back in March that Tottenham were interested in the defender, with a price tag of around £18.5m having been set by the Bundesliga club (Arena Napoli).

The 24-year-old played a huge role in Freiburg’s eighth-placed finish in the 2019/20 season with the defender making 32 appearances, 90% of them coming in the starting XI (Transfermarkt).

After three years with the Bundesliga side, it appears Koch’s time at Freiburg may be set to come to an end this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Koch has been a huge part of what has been a fairly successful season fro Freiburg in the past season. Is he good enough to join Spurs? Well, he is certainly gaining interest from some big clubs across Europe but I do think Mourinho will look elsewhere for his first-choice replacement for Jan Vertonghen.

Jose Mourinho believes that it will take a few matches for Premier League teams including Spurs to get into the groove of things once the season returns, just like it has for those in the Bundesliga.

The Premier League is set to resume next month with the players in a race against time to get match fit for the restart.

However, Mourinho insisted that he and his coaching staff are going to be careful not to push the players too hard given the length of their lay off, and slowly build up the intensity over the coming weeks.

When asked about the training schedule, he told Spurs TV: “First of all, we have to be very very careful with the players’ welfare. Again, this is a pre-season, probably more difficult than the other preseasons. Because they (the players) are coming back after a long time without training.

“So, it is not like Monday we are going to start training and immediately we train 11 vs 11. No, we are not going to do that. We are going to make sure that progressively, we are going to arrive on matchday one and be let’s say ready. ”

The Tottenham boss also insisted that teams should learn a lesson from how many of the German teams took two to three matches to get back to their best.

While the Portuguese coach talked about the importance of easing into proceedings, he insisted that the team will be ready to compete from the first match.

He added: “We look to the Bundesliga and we can see a difference in quality of intensity of the first match and the third match.

“When you see Bayern against Dortmund – the third match, you feel immediately, ‘Wow, that was a proper match’, and I think probably the same is going to happen (in the Premier League).

“Progressively, teams are going to reach their level, which is what happens in normal preseason. It is very difficult that the team arrives in the first game of the season, normally around 10th August or something like that and is really in their peak.

“So let’s go step by step. We have to be ready. We have to be ready to fight for points.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If we had 12-15 games left instead of 9, I would be extremely confident that we would finish in the top four given the firepower we have at our disposal with a full fit squad. However, as we have seen time and again, results are rather unpredictable at the start of the season as teams take time to settle into their groove. So, it will certainly be difficult for us to claw back the seven-point deficit with the fourth spot unless we hit the ground running.

Football is finally returning to our screens.

The Bundesliga is set to be the first of the five big leagues to make a comeback since all football was suspended back in March. However, to no-one surprise, football fans will not be in attendance as the games are set to be played behind-closed-doors for the remaining fixtures. (Telegraph)

Many supporters across Europe will be tuning in to watch Bundesliga for the first time and will need a club to follow. So, we have gathered all the latest former Spurs players currently playing in Germany that might give you a reason to follow a club.

Benjamin Stambouli – Schalke 04

Stambouli was not a fan favourite among fans in his one year at the club after joining from Montpellier in 2014. He went on to make 27 appearances for the club and only scoring once in the Europa League. (Transfermarkt)

Now in 2020, the Frenchman is playing his trade at Schalke featuring in 82 games, failing to score or assist in any domestic league games. The 29-year-old has only made 10 appearances this season before sustaining a foot injury in November and was out until the suspension of the league. (Transfermarkt)

Lockdown could have given Stambouli the perfect chance to regain fitness and could be involved in the game against Borussia Dortmund.

Keanan Bennetts – Borussia Monchengladbach

Bennetts never made a single senior appearance for Spurs but did feature 32 times for the Under-23s, netting eight goals and eight assists. (Transfermarkt)

Since his move to Bundesliga, Bennetts has also failed to feature for Borussia Mochengblach senior squad but appeared on the bench in the opening game of the 19/20 season.

The chances of Bennetts appearing in these final few games are very slim but watching Monchengladbach allows you to witness a title race with them six points behind leaders Bayern Munich and will face Frankfurt on May 16.

Milos Veljokvic – Werder Bremen

Veljokvic failed to get an opportunity at Spurs – loaned out twice – and before being moved on in 2016 to Werder Bremen. (Espn)

The Swiss international broke into Werder Bremen’s first team and has since gone on to make 108 appearances for the Bundesliga club, with 15 of them coming this season. (Transfermarkt)

Werder Bremen are currently in a relegation scrap, as they sit eight points from safety and begin their grand escape on May 18 against Bayer Leverkusen.

Ismail Azzaoui – VFL Wolfsburg

Ismail Azzaoui was quickly moved on in 2015 before making a single appearance for Spurs’ senior team and only featured five times for Under-23’s, scoring just once. (Transfermarkt)

Within two years in Germany, he was loaned out to Willem II in the Netherlands in the 2017/18 season, making 24 appearances and netting four goals. (Transfermarkt)

The reason that he features on the list is that in the final few games before the season was interrupted Azzaoui made three appearances on the bench.

There is some optimism that the Premier League will resume at the start of June with clubs working together with the Government to iron out the details of ‘Project Restart’ (Sky Sports).

However, there is no confirmation as to if and when the top flight will resume as of yet.

One league that has been given the green light to resume action after being suspended for more than two months is the Bundesliga.

German top-flight action resumes this weekend behind closed doors and the eyes of the entire footballing world will be on Germany, not just to see how they manage the league amidst the pandemic but also because fans across the world have been deprived of any footballing action for a long time.

Schalke have taken to social media to make the case as to why fans of various Premier League clubs should cheer for them this season.

They implored Spurs fans to back them by pointing out how much they enjoy beating their local rivals Borussia Dortmund, who Tottenham have had great results against in the Champions League in recent years.

Spurs Web Opinion

The Bundesliga is the most underrated league in Europe and is the closest to the Premier League in terms of competitiveness, with all sides capable of beating one another. With many new fans likely to tune in, German football could get a lot of followers over the next few months.

Tottenham Hotspur signed Toby Alderweireld from Southampton in the summer transfer window of 2015 (Guardian) and made an instant impact changing Spurs’ fortunes in defence alongside his international teammate, Jan Vertonghen.

With the Belgian stopper undecided on his future at Tottenham, the North London side have eyed up Freiburg defender Robin Koch as a potential replacement for the ageing Alderweireld. (The Sun)

Alderweireld has a £25 million buyout clause written into his contract with teams such as Manchester United looking to trigger it (Mail).

Koch signed for the Bundesliga side from Kaiserslautern for £3 million (The Sun) and has helped inspire Freiburg to a comfortable mid-table finish in Germany’s top league whilst picking up three caps for the Under-21 national team and is close to breaking into the senior side.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I believe it is really important to have a replacement ready for when Toby eventually departs the club but I think that we already have one in Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth. Of course, if we ended up signing Koch and he was as consistent as Alderweireld then I would be happy but I believe that we may not need to go into the market for a centre back and we should rather look for players in different positions.

Spurs fans may not want to think about it right now, but they may be in the market for a centre-back come the summer, as Alderweireld’s contract ticks down.

Tottenham extended the Belgian’s deal by a year this season, but that means he will be available for just £25m in the summer.

If he does leave, it will be a mighty big hole for the Lilywhites to fill, even if they do have some quality replacements already at the club.

Jan Vertonghen also only has one extra year on his contract after this season, and Spurs may have to start thinking about the long term.

SkySports have now reported that Tottenham and Arsenal are both monitoring 25-year-old centre-back Matthias Ginter from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Bundesliga man already has 23 caps for Germany, and Spurs have been linked with him in the past, according the Sky.

Should Spurs move for a new central defender in the summer, or make do with what they have and invest in attacking options?

Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with German club Schalke over a potential loan move for Danny Rose, according to Sky Sports News.

Spurs have been willing to offload Rose over the course of this transfer window with a move back up to the north of England looking the most likely outcome.

However, with less than one day left of the transfer window, it is believed last season’s Bundesliga runner-ups are in talks over a loan move for the 28-year-old.

Rose has had a turbulent past 12 months with Tottenham having publically criticised the club to The Sun newspaper.

The Yorkshireman also revealed his struggles with depression during his lengthy injury.

In February 2017 Rose picked up an injury against former club Sunderland which saw the left-back sit out for nine months.

In that time, Ben Davies excelled under Mauricio Pochettino to earn himself a first-team place under the Argentine manager.

Since Rose’s return, he has struggled to work his way back into the squad which has not done his future with the north London side any favours.

Spurs fans, would you be happy to see Rose leave so late in the transfer window on loan?

Spurs look to have been handed a boost with prized talent Reo Griffiths is set to stay at the club this summer according to the London Evening Standard.

Griffiths, who turns 18 in a few weeks, has been heavily linked with a move to Germany’s Bundesliga after scoring over 30 goals for the club’s Under-18’s last season.

The article says that the teenage striker is concerned about his pathway into Spurs’ first-team, with Harry Kane ahead of him, however he is now expected to agree a professional contract with the club, who want to see how he performs in the U23s before promising him an opportunity in the senior side.

However according to the article another Spurs starlet, Marcus Edwards, future is less clear. Considered one of the most talented players of his age in the country and once compared to Lionel Messi by manager Mauricio Pochettino back in September 2016.

The 19-year-old has only senior appearance for the club and a loan spell at Norwich was a disaster beijg cut short in mid-April for personal reasons after he played just six minutes for the Canaries.

The Canaries boss Daniel Farke said Edwards needed to work on his game off the ball, while his behaviour was questioned by Pochettino in his book, released last year.

It adds that Edwards feels he has learned from the difficult experience at Carrow Road and is looking forward to a fresh start next season however doubts remain at the club that he will make it under Pochettino, and a decision on his future is set to be taken this summer.

The article also adds that Spurs have high hopes for Oliver Skipp, a 17-year-old central midfield player, although it is felt he tired in the final months of last season and he will not be considered for a first-team spot next season.

Another young star Anton Walkes is set to join Portsmouth on a permanent deal after impressing on loan at the League One club in the second half of last season.

According to a report from talkSPORT We are said to be lining up a cut-price move for Hoffenheim ace Nadiem Amiri however we do face competition from Atletico Madrid for his signature.

According to the report the 20-year-old is considered one of the best young midfielders in the Bundesliga and has been in impressive form over the past two seasons.

However it does say his long-term future remains unclear as he has entered the final 18 months of his contract and it doesn’t look like he will be signing an extension anytime soon.

It’s adds that the situation has alerted the attention of Spurs who, according to German publication Bild, have been tracking the players performances in Germany.

The report does say that Atletico Madrid are also big fans of the youngster, who has already played 56 times in the Germany top-flight, and could make their move when the window opens.

Hoffenheim snubbed a bid worth around £11m from RB Leipzig during the summer but, given his contract situation, that article adds it is likely that he will be available for considerably less 12 months on.

So what do we think about this one, undoubtedly talented and he does seem to be right up Daniel Levy’s alley in terms of value

According to an article in The Daily Mail, Spurs have joined the growing number of clubs to have checked on Hamburg striker Jann-Fiete Arp.

The article says how the teenager, who has been prolific for Germany Under 17s – he scored seven goals in the European Championships and five in the World Cup – has broken into Hamburg’s first team and scored twice in three appearances.

However it does say Juventus, Chelsea and Arsenal have already had scouts watch him this season and now the powers that be at Spurs have taken notice of the 17-year-old’s progress too.

The youngster scored to help Hamburg beat Stuttgart 3-1 last weekend, following on from his consolation strike in their defeat by Hertha Berlin the previous week, which the article says in turn made him the club’s youngest ever goalscorer.
‘I have a huge chance here and I’m really happy to be an integral part of the Bundesliga squad,’ said Arp.
‘The hype is honestly a bit scary to me. At the moment, I just want to focus on football.’

It adds how Arp has pinpointed Harry Kane as his role model and has similarities in style with the Tottenham and England centre forward.
It concludes by saying Arp is under contract until 2019 but with Hamburg lying just above the relegation zone in the Bundesliga, the club is braced for others taking a keen interest in their latest academy star.
