Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Micky Van de Ven will be wearing the number 37 shirt for his first season in North London, after making the switch from Wolfsburg today.
The 22-year-old central defender signed on the dotted line at Hotspur Way this afternoon on a contract that will keep him in N17 until 2029.
Reports have indicated that the transfer is worth around £43m, including add-ons, and Van de Ven will now link up with Ange Postecoglou and the Spurs squad this week (Evening Standard).
Spurs will have to wait for Micky Van de Ven debut
However, the Dutch U21 international will not take part in the pre-season friendly against Barcelona tonight because he is still waiting on his work permit (Evening Standard).
Van de Ven becomes Tottenham’s seventh signing of the summer, including Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro’s loan deals which became permanent. Spurs have also signed James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Manor Solomon, and Ashley Phillips.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Number 37 is a bit of a rogue choice, but we are just so happy to see a first-team centre-back come through the doors before the season kicks off. Of course, it would have been nice to have him for the pre-season tour, but it was a signing that very much needed to happen, one way or another.
