In his first interview for Tottenham Hotspur, Micky van de Ven has been discussing his attributes and how he can help the team, and also how he hopes to develop as a player as part of the Spurs squad.
Of the many failures of the Spurs squad last season, the frailties in defence were the most glaring, leaving Ange Postecoglou with no doubt that reinforcing his back-line was a priority this summer.
Throughout the transfer window, two names have been mentioned time and time again as the top targets for Tottenham – Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba.
The pair, who both made their name in the Bundesliga, were earmarked as ideal recruits for the Spurs defence thanks to data analysis (Football.London).
Over the last week, it became clear that van de Ven would be the one to make the move to North London.
Going into the weekend, it was claimed Tottenham had reached an agreement with Wolfsburg on a £43m deal for the Dutch centre-half (The Athletic).
Van de Ven is proud to be in the Premier League
Speaking for the first time as a Tottenham player, van de Ven revealed in an interview with the club the kind of qualities he hopes to bring to Postecoglou’s squad.
He said: “I’m a centre-back, a tall guy, I think I have some speed, so I can play in a high line, offensive football, between the lines. I think I’m quite calm on the ball and hopefully, I can help the team.
“Every player [in the Premier League] will be top, so I have to be ready for this stage, and I’m really proud I can play on this stage. To play every time against a top club, and playing for a top club, for me, it’s an incredible feeling to be in the Premier League.”
“I'm really excited to be part of the future of Spurs”

On what he hopes to achieve in the future, the 22-year-old added: “I think I can learn so much here, every day on the training ground with top players, top facilities, everything is top here, top fans, top stadium. I think I can develop more here and hopefully, I can become a really great player for Spurs.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Micky van de Ven is already such a great player, and at his age, he has so much more potential to develop into a truly world-class defender. He is going to be a valuable asset to Spurs for years to come, and I cannot wait to see him in action.
