New Tottenham Hotspur signing, Micky van de Ven, has been speaking for the first time as a Spurs player, and revealed how much he enjoyed watching the team against Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday.

Tottenham have been looking to add a new defender or two to their squad to reinforce a back-line which conceded 63 goals last season.

It soon emerged that Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, were the leading candidates to be snapped up by Spurs this summer.

The pair were even identified by data analysis to be perfect additions to the Tottenham squad (Football.London).

Ultimately, a deal was forged for van de Ven, with a £43m agreement in place by the weekend (The Athletic) and a medical booked in for Monday (De Telegraaf). All went according to plan, and the 22-year-old is now officially a Tottenham Hotspur player.

Micky van de Ven is a big fan of the way Spurs play

The Dutch defender was present as Spurs defeated Shakhtar Donetsk at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday afternoon, and in his first interview with the club, has shared his thoughts on that 5-1 win and the style of football implemented by Ange Postecoglou.

He said: “I was at the game, and I saw the way of playing from the new manager, from Ange, and I really love it, offensive football, exactly what I want. It looked amazing at the game yesterday, every time we had the ball, every player. There is so much quality in the team.”

It is such a relief to finally have a quality defender to play alongside Cristian Romero, and I feel the pair are going to be a formidable duo at the back for Spurs this season.

The awareness and athleticism of van de Ven should be the perfect foil for Romero to step out of defence with the ball, and it should be a joy to watch.
