Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Micky van de Ven has now emerged as Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role ahead of Edmond Taposba.
Tottenham appear to be making some real progress in their pursuit of Van de Ven, with Fabrizio Romano reporting a couple of days ago that Spurs are ‘advancing’ in talks with Wolfsburg over the centre-back, with the two clubs said to be ‘close’ to an agreement.
On Thursday, Football Insider even asserted that the Netherlands international had already agreed a five-year deal with the North London club, who are now confident of striking a deal with the Bundesliga side.
However, until last week, it had widely been reported that Edmond Tapsoba was Tottenham’s preferred choice for the left centre-back role, with Alasdair Gold telling Football.London that the Leverkusen star was seen by Spurs as a more ‘readymade’ choice than the Dutchman.
Micky Van de Ven is now Spurs’ top-choice target
Jones has claimed that the situation has now flipped, with Van de Ven being the one that the Lilywhites want.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “My understanding is that Tottenham’s preference has become Van de Ven, but it’s honestly not by much and I don’t feel like they would feel hard done by whichever player ended up coming through the door.
“It’s not going to be the only defensive signing that they make over the course of this window though.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It has been constantly reported for the past three weeks that we are ‘close’ to striking a deal for Van de Ven but there are no concrete signs of any progress.
The only explanation is that Spurs are waiting to see what happens with the Tapsoba pursuit, which would suggest that the Burkina Faso international is indeed the club’s first-choice target.
