Leicester City midfielder James Maddison was arguably the best player on the pitch when Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
The 22-year-old was a threat whenever he got on the ball and eventually scored a brilliant winner late in the game to hand his side all three points.
Maddison was linked with a move to Spurs this summer after impressing in his debut Premier League season, with reports claiming that he was Tottenham’s preferred choice to replace Christian Eriksen, who is now into the final year of his contract with Spurs (the Mirror).
However, the deal didn’t go through in the summer and Maddison has started the season in terrific form for Leicester and has recently been rewarded with a call-up to the senior England side (Telegraph).
The Express have reported that the former Norwich City midfielder still remains on Tottenham’s radar.
Some Spurs fans were left extremely impressed with the silky midfielder’s showing on Saturday and felt that he would be a great fit for Spurs.
However, others felt that the Lilywhites had already lost their chance to sign him and should have bought him in from Norwich City last summer.
Maddison > Alli #thfc #COYS this team is a joke…Boring and so slow these days.

James Maddison is everything that Eriksen should still be. Influences games massively.

Think we’ve missed the boat on him. No way Levy will pay for a prize asset, young, English player from the EPL.

Should have signed him this summer.

Good idea considering he owned us yesterday

Should have bought him when he was at Norwich…

Are our scouts thick or something? We all identified him when he was at Norwich. He’ll now cost £100mill + ??♂️

Spurs Web Opinion
While it is easy to say that Spurs should have signed James Maddison when Leicester did, the reality was that it was unclear how he would have coped with the Premier League. Given his recent performances, Leicester will now demand a huge fee for the 22-year-old, which likely puts him out of Tottenham’s reach.
