Tottenham Hotspur may soon have to accept that fact that Christian Eriksen will likely not be a Spurs player this time next season.
As it stands, the Great Dane is set to leave at the end of the campaign on a free as his contract runs down after spending six seasons in North London.
Eriksen has racked up 277 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 66 goals in all competitions in that time (Wikipedia).
With the playmaker able to talk to non-English clubs about a potential pre-contract agreement ahead of a free summer move, Spurs may now need to line up a replacement.
Football journalist, Duncan Castles, has now claimed that Tottenham have identified Leicester City’s James Maddison as Eriksen’s successor.
Maddison has scored two and assisted two in seven games for Leicester this season with his market value said to be just over £40m by Transfer Markt.
Spurs Web Opinion:
By the end of this season, I can’t see Tottenham being able to afford Maddison. If he has another good campaign, which I believe he will, then I believe Leicester will be looking for £80m-£100m for the English playmaker.
