Tottenham Hotspur’s current resident playmaker, Christian Eriksen, has well under a year left on his current contract in North London.
As it stands, if no new deal is reached, Eriksen will be able to talk to non-English clubs in January about a possible move for free in the summer of 2020.
This could leave a free spot in the creative department for Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham and a recent report stated that James Maddison from Leicester is a desired player (Football Insider).
This comes after the Daily Mirror claimed that Tottenham wanted to spend some of their Champions League prize money on Maddison back in the summer window.
However, the Leicester man stayed put until the close of the window, but current Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers, refuses to rule out a future transfer away.
He says that if the desired valuation for a player is met then there will at least be discussions, although they do not want to invite such bids for Maddison.
He said (Football London): “In a player’s career, there will always be that temptation.
“This is a club that doesn’t want to sell its best players, but of course, if there’s a valuation that is met, which meets what the club perceive the player to be worth, then there will be a discussion.
“But it’s not something we want to invite. James is very much a talented player for us.
“He still has lots of improvements to make as a young player.
“He, along with a number of young players, we want to keep here. But of course, I’m a realist as well.
“I understand how the market works. But it’s not something we would be looking to entertain.”
