The Times have revealed that Tottenham are optimistic that James Maddison will feature against Liverpool despite hyperextending his knee against Arsenal.

Maddison had the problem midway into the second half at the Emirates but he continued playing for nine more minutes after receiving treatment, eventually coming off at the 78-minute mark.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed on Monday that the midfielder was moving normally after the game when he undertook his media duties.

He added that the England international’s initial feeling about his knee is ‘positive’ but he is expected to have a scan to ensure that everything is okay.

Tottenham now optimistic about Maddison return

The Times have now stated that the feeling at Spurs at the moment is that Maddison’s injury is not serious and that the midfielder will be fit to face Liverpool on Saturday.

The report reveals that the 26-year-old trained on the grass at Hotspur Way after undoing some tests and that he will be closely monitored over the next couple of days by the medical staff in case he feels any discomfort.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Maddison has any slight discomfort, I do not think Postecoglou would risk him against Liverpool as the 26-year-old is too important for us.

The issue that the Australian has is that Lo Celso is now also out with an injury, which means that he might have to play Johnson or Kulusevski as an eight if the England international is not passed fit.
