Tottenham transfer target Davinson Sanchez has been urged to stay by his current club Ajax amidst reports suggesting any news of a done deal between the two clubs are jumping the gun.
In recent days, Tottenham have been heavily linked with 21 year old defender Davinson Sanchez, who in his first season with the club, netted 6 times in 43 appearances for Ajax last season.
Only yesterday The Mirror had reported that a fee of up to £30 million had been agreed by the two clubs, after Sanchez had supposedly refused to board the team bus ahead of Ajax’s game against Heracles on Saturday.
However, these rumours appear to be premature as SkySports has revealed that Ajax’s Sporting Director Marc Overmars has been beseeching last season’s club Player of the Year to stay in Holland.
It has been announced also that Overmars and Ajax gaffer Marcel Keizer were responsible for the decision to leave Sanchez out of the squad for Ajax’s game against Heracles, claiming that the Colombian was not admissibly focused amidst the speculation.
Recently, Overmars revealed to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf that Ajax have tabled an improved contract in the hopes of keeping the youngster at the Amsterdam Arena this Summer, after just one year at the club.
In line with the Sporting Director’s message to the Dutch press, a club’s spokesperson also offered SkySports a similar statement:
“Last year Sanchez signed a five-year contract and we don’t want to let him go.”
“That’s what Marc Overmars has told the player and his agents. He is a great player who is very important for us.”
“Next to that, we never comment on rumours regarding transfers.”
Spurs are believed to be in the market for a versatile young defender after missing out on a number of reported targets this Summer, and Davinson Sanchez still remains strongly linked with an eventual move to Spurs.
