Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Davinson Sanchez, who has been widely tipped to leave Tottenham this summer, has impressed Ange Postecoglou over recent weeks.
At the start of the summer, it seemed like Sanchez would be one of the first members of the backline to be offloaded, given his shortcomings in possession.
However, the Colombian has seemingly moved ahead of the likes of Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga in the pecking order, having been named on the bench for both games so far, and impressing when he came on for the concussed Cristian Romero against Brentford.
Reports over the last few days continued to indicate that the centre-back will leave the North London club, with the likes of Monaco, Galatasaray and Nottingham Forest among those credited with an interest in the player (Daily Mail).
Postecoglou impressed with Davinson Sanchez
Gold has now stated that Sanchez has impressed the new Spurs head coach over recent weeks, with the defender’s pace making him more of a natural fit than the likes of Dier to the Australian’s high defensive line.
However, the journalist explains Tottenham will be tempted by an opportunity to sell the former Ajax man since he has just one year left on his contract.
Gold points out that the Lilywhites even accepted a £12m bid from Spartak Moscow for Sanchez earlier in the summer, only for the player to turn down the move.
Spurs Web Opinion
While Sanchez did well against Brentford and in the pre-season game against Barca, it is going to take more than just recovery pace to succeed in Ange’s backline.
The 27-year-old is simply not good enough on the ball to play the way the Australian wants to, which is why cashing in on him would be the right move.
