James Maddison could play against his former Leicester City teammates next month in a pre-season friendly.
The 26-year-old has been a star performer for the Foxes over the last couple of seasons, but his tally of ten goals and nine assists last term (Transfermarkt) was not enough to stave off relegation for Leicester.
With his side dropping to the Championship, it was widely expected that Maddison would leave the club and join a Premier League team for the forthcoming campaign.
Newcastle were thought to be keen on signing the playmaker, but cooled their interest in Maddison last week, leaving Tottenham in the driving seat (Telegraph).
Things have moved quickly since then, with Spurs jumping at the opportunity to snap up one of their priority targets.
Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano shared the news that Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City had come to an agreement on a £40 million deal for Maddison, and that personal terms had already been agreed with the player. Spurs then made the official announcement last night.
Maddison could play against Leicester in pre-season
One of his first tasks as a Spurs player could be to take the field against his former club. Tottenham will play Leicester at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand as part of their pre-season preparations.
Assuming Maddison will be fit and part of the team selection for the game on July 23, he will come up against some familiar faces in the Foxes lineup.
Spurs Web Opinion
I can’t wait to see James Maddison in a Spurs shirt, and I am filled with confidence that he will be a big success for us.
He’s such a clever and creative player and he is exactly what we need to make the most of the attacking talents in our squad.
