However, it now looks like Sancho’s time at the Manchester club might soon come to an end after the forward publicly refuted Erik Ten Hag’s claim about his performance in training and accused the United boss of making him a scapegoat (talkSPORT).

When asked if Tottenham could reignite their interest in Sancho in January, Jones has now told GiveMeSport: “It doesn’t feel like the sort of one that Tottenham are going to be looking for in the January window, from what I can tell at this stage.

“So I wouldn’t necessarily expect them to need to come back in for Jadon Sancho in a moment like that unless an easy loan or a really cheap deal opened up.

Even if Sancho felt that he had trained well in the week leading up to the Arsenal game and that Ten Hag’s assessment was incorrect, it certainly was not the right decision to air his grievances on social media.

“But there are complications – one is fee and two is wages. Manchester United, as I understand it, don’t have Sancho at the top of their list to sell.

“And if Sancho moved to Tottenham, he may feel that he can get more game time and we wait and see whether that is a defining factor or not.

“I don’t think Sancho is going to be available in the market for under £50m, it might even push £60m. So, it’s a big outlay.”

According to Sportac, Sancho currently earns £350,000 a week at Manchester United, which is considerably higher than our highest-earning players – Harry Kane, Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min.

Either way, it is said that the Red Devils are looking for closer to £60m, despite Sancho’s poor form over the past 12 months, with Ten Hag well aware of his side’s need to raise cash.

If Tottenham could get Sancho back to his Dortmund levels, where he scored 50 goals and assisted another 57 in 137 games (TransferMarkt), then it would be an impressive piece of business.

By comparison, Sancho has managed just nine goals and six assists in 55 games for Man United (transfermarkt) since joining for a huge £73m fee (SkySports).

I think, while this is an exciting prospect, it’s just too much of a gamble for Spurs at the moment. Sancho would have to be the marquee signing of the summer, and there is no guarantee he will rediscover any form. I would rather go for someone tried and tested in the league to a high level, like Maddison.

Kane has a fantastic record from the spot for both club and country over the years.

Merson, for once, is spot on here. I do not see Ronaldo taking United to the title while Kane is certainly capable of doing that. However, it was fairly evident that the Tottenham man only wanted to join City this summer. 

I am not sure if he would have been equally enthusiastic over the idea of joining United. Kane is after trophies, which a move to United would not guarantee him, given that Solskjaer is yet to win silverware since taking over.

Linking United with a move for Kane as an alternative to Sancho is nothing but lazy journalism in my opinion. While it is true that the Red Devils have always admired the Spurs striker, there is no chance that they can strike a deal with Levy if they are having trouble meeting Dortmund’s £108m price tag for Sancho. The Spurs chairman is not going to allow Kane to leave for anything below £200m with four years to run on his contract.

Sancho likely has a higher ceiling compared to Dybala due to his age. The fact that Spurs wanted to sign him when he left City indicates that Pochettino clearly rates the England youngster highly. Even the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters, Oliver Skipp, and Luke Amos are beginning to have increased roles in the Spurs squad.

However, one man who did not need Pochettio and Spurs to boost his career is Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

Sancho has broken his way into the Dortmund first team, as well as Gareth Southgate’s senior England side over the past season.

Tottenham were actually linked with the winger before he moved to Germany back in 2017 (ESPN), and Dele Alli has now been seen hanging out with his England teammate.

The England team have arguably improved even more since their wonderful showing at last summer’s World Cup as Gareth Southgate has got them playing a new system with 3 upfront in which Kane often plays deeper than the two other forwards.

Newcomers to the squad like Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi are now pushing the likes of Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford for the forward positions.

Midfielder Dele Alli who is now an experienced member of the England set-up has raved about Sancho’s and Hudson-Odoi’s abilities on the ball.

The Spurs man talked in glowing terms about the recent performances of Sancho, who could have joined Tottenham last summer if not for Man City’s unwillingness to sell to another English club (ESPN).

Speaking about the pair to the Evening Standard, Alli said, “They’re both fantastic players,” said Alli, as quoted by the Evening Standard. “They’re still young but have already proven they can cope at this level. I’ve seen them in training and they’re amazing one-on-one and things like that.

“They’re entertaining to watch which is great for the fans. But at the same time, they’re great team players I’ve played against Callum at Chelsea, been watching Sancho play for Dortmund and what he’s been doing has been great.

“It’s good for English football as well, seeing what Sancho is doing in Germany. It’s exciting times. It’s good to watch them, try to give them advice every now and then, but they’re great players.”

Spurs have also now gone well over a year without bringing in a single new player to the squad.

The club became the first Prem side in history not to sign a player in the summer transfer window last year, before extending the record to an entire season.

Despite opening their brand new stadium for its first test event at the weekend, you would think that Spurs and Levy still have some funds tucked up their sleeve for the summer.

A marquee signing to take into the new stadium would be the perfect way to get the new White Hart Lane rocking in 2019/20.

Ex-West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has told the Express that he believes Spurs and Poch will go out and sign Jadon Sancho to make such a statement.

He said: “I just feel that this is a perfect fit for Sancho and his talents.

“Also coming together, I spoke about Pochettino, I think he will still be at White Hart Lane come next season.

“Let’s keep in mind that Daniel Levy and Spurs have barely spent any money over the last couple of seasons.

“I think, new stadium opening, Pochettino, who I think will stay, given Solskjaer, given Zidane and Real Madrid, those were the two big clubs really after Pochettino reportedly, Pochettino will be promised money.

“And if I’ve got a whole lot of money to spend and I’m looking for an up and coming talent, that maybe available, and maybe acquirable, Jadon Sancho ticks all those boxes.

“I think Spurs spend heavy on him.”

The 21-year old attacking midfielder this week beat Gareth Bale to the Wales Player of the year award as well as picking up the Young Player award following a great season for club and country.

Tottenham and Arsenal have shown their interest in Brooks with a potential £40million move being reported by The Sun.

Earlier this month, the Bournemouth star admitted he is happy at the club after signing a contract extension keeping him with the Cherries until 2022.

But does Brooks want to follow in international teammate Gareth Bale’s footsteps and play at the very top.

He stated: “I want to play at the highest level possible – whether that is abroad or in England. I don’t know what the future holds for myself.

“Obviously the aim is to get up there and whatever opportunities come, I will have to make the decisions then.

“I am not really expecting it and the reason I signed the contract is I am happy at Bournemouth and the way my progression is going.

“I want that to continue and for the focus not to be on anything else. That is why I signed and I am very happy at Bournemouth.”

Before making his name at Bournemouth, Brooks was the main man at Sheffield United who he joined from the Manchester City academy

The City academy graduate spoke about Jadon Sancho and how he is an inspiration for young players trying to make the breakthrough.

He said: “I think Sancho’s path he has taken going to Borussia Dortmund is quite inspiring for any young players who want to go and do it.

“If you don’t make it at one place, it doesn’t mean you are not going to make it at another place.

“Obviously the impact he has made and getting into the England team is a massive achievement.”
