Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he will once again include Oliver Skipp in his match day squad for tomorrow night’s trip to Wolves.
The 18-year-old midfielder made his senior Spurs debut on Wednesday evening as an 85th minute sub in the 3-1 win against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.
With many players absent from Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the USA due to their involvement in the World Cup, Skipp was given the opportunity to impress and duly took his chance.
The Spurs’ academy graduate was born in Welwyn Garden City and has been a regular in the Under-23 side.
Victor Wanyama picked up a knee injury in the victory at the London Stadium and will miss the match at Molineux along with Eric Dier who is not expected to return before the international break later this month.
With the midfield pair absent, Skipp will be hoping for more game time to show he can make the step up to the first team on a regular basis. Frustratingly, fellow highly-rated youngster Luke Amos picked up a season-ending injury early last month with a knee injury.
Pochettino told Football.London when asked if Skipp would be involved: “Yes Oliver is going to be in the squad.”
The Spurs boss added the following when questioned about the youngster’s development: “I am so happy. He made his debut at West Ham on Wednesday. Like always with the young you have to be patient. They need to feel with the capacity to play with the first team. Then like always, they show every single day hunger, desire, passion about training, football and everything. Like always if they start to achieve important things it’s about keeping this hunger, desire, passion and prioritise football before other things and that will be a challenge. We are happy with how he has developed for the last four or five months.”
