Tuttosport have claimed that Juventus believe they will win the race for Pau Torres’ signature despite the fact that Spurs are also interested in the centre-back.
Pau Torres is set to run into the final year of his contract at Villarreal in June (Tranfermarkt) and over recent weeks, multiple publications have talked up the chances of the centre-back leaving the La Liga club this summer.
One of those was Football Transfers, who reported at the start of this month that Tottenham are ready to reignite their interest in the Spaniard this summer after failing to with a move for him last year.
The publication asserted that the Lilywhites face competition from Juventus and Aston Villa for the centre-back’s services, with Unai Emery said to be keen on reuniting with the player at Villa Park.
TuttoMercatoWeb subsequently claimed a week later that Villarreal have informed clubs that the Spain international would cost €30m (£26.1m) this summer.
TuttoSport have offered an update on the race or Torres’ signature, explaining that Juve have been keen on the centre-back since last year.
The report adds that Tottenham have also ‘already looked at’ the Villarreal star and ‘could try again’ to snap him up this summer.
However, it is alleged that the Old Lady believe they can convince the 26-year-old to move to the Allianz Stadium even if they do not qualify for any other European competitions.
Spurs Web Opinion
I personally would prefer Piero Hincapie or Evan Ndicka to Torres as I am not convinced that the Spaniard would be able to cope with the physicality of the Premier League.
I am disappointed to see that Spurs are seemingly not advancing on a deal for Ndicka, given that the Frenchman is available on a free transfer.
