According to the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (07/04/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) Tottenham have made ‘an enquiry’ about Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg ahead of the summer transfer window.
Tottenham were credited with an interest in Svanberg during the January transfer window (Inews) and the North Londoners have been backed to reignite their interest in the Sweden international this summer (Sport 28/03/22 – via TEAMtalk).
Calciomercato claimed recently that Spurs could face competition from the likes of AC Milan, West Ham and Everton for the 23-year-old.
Corriere have now revealed that Tottenham have made contact with Bologna for Svanberg, whose contract with the Serie A club runs until 2023.
It is alleged that the midfielder’s future at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara is in doubt and that he is valued at around €20m (£16.7m) ahead of the summer.
However, it is explained that Bologna have not yet given up hope of extending Svanberg’s contract so they could potentially get a higher transfer fee for him this summer.
As things stand, it is explained that the Swede has no intention of putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Spurs Web Opinion
Given how well Hojbjerg and Bentancur have been playing as a partnership and the fact that Conte still has Skipp at his disposal, I do not expect us to spend big on a central midfielder this summer.
The bulk of our transfer budget could be used to strengthen in the wing-back areas, a left-sided centre-back and potentially an attacking midfielder/forward. So, Paratici will likely be looking at low-cost options to replace Harry Winks and Svanberg fits the profile of players that he is likely to go after.
