TMW Radio director Marco Piccari claims he has long been a fan of Destiny Udogie and admitted that he was blown away by the Tottenham man’s performance against England last week.
Even though Italy were at the end of a 3-1 loss in what was a repeat of the final of Euro 2020, Udogie showed plenty of promise in what was his first start for his country.
As Spurs fans have come to expect of the 20-year-old, he was solid defensively in one-on-one situations and decisive in his forays up the pitch.
Udogie, who started the move that led to Gianluca Scamacca’s opener in the 15th minute, has received plenty of praise from the Italian press for his showing in London.
In an opinion piece for Messaggero Veneto, journalist Pietro Oleotto even suggested a couple of days ago that it is ‘incredible’ that former Italy boss Roberto Mancini didn’t call up the youngster to the Azzurri squad over the last couple of years.
Destiny Udogie is earning fans left, right and centre
Piccari has now become the latest reporter to gush over the Tottenham man after his first start for Italy.
He said (via TMW): “We (Italy) came to this match not at the best from an environmental point of view but we saw desire and character. You took a risk but you had to do it like this.
“I liked Udogie like crazy, he’s growing a lot. I saw myself in him a strong full-back from some time ago.”

Udogie’s stock is going to grow considerably over the next year or two and I fully expect the youngster to be a fixture in Luciano Spalletti’s starting eleven from now on and to play a key role for Italy in next summer’s Euros.
