Mattias Svanberg has completed a transfer to VfL Wolfsburg (Fabrizio Romano), with Tottenham alleged to have been interested earlier this summer.
Spurs have made a strong start to the transfer window, completing deals for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Richarlison, and Clement Lenglet (Transfermarkt).
In midfield, Antonio Conte has also added Brighton’s Yves Bissouma, a player who has excelled as a box-to-box presence in the Premier League for a number of years.
However, it looks as though Conte may be looking to strengthen the area further. According to CalcioMercato journalist Giacomo Iacobellis, Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul turned down an approach from the Lilywhites in recent weeks.
Another reported target, according to iNews, was Svanberg. The 23-year-old finalised an £8 million move to Wolfsburg, amid interest from a number of Premier League clubs including West Ham and Everton (CalcioMercato).
The print edition of Corriere dello Sport (07/04/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) also reported this summer that Spurs contacted Bologna about a potential deal. Sport (28/03/22 – via TEAMtalk) also backed the Lilywhites to move for the midfielder.
Despite being an international teammate of Dejan Kulusevski, there will be no Swedish link-up in North London this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
Svanberg is not a player I know a great deal about. It is clear that he has impressed with his performances at Bologna last year which has gained him these multiple transfer links. However, I feel as though he would have been an underwhelming signing for the majority of Spurs fans.
