Bologna full-back Andrea Cambiaso, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has been compared to Italy legend Paulo Maldini by his agent.
Cambiaso has won several admirers during what is his first season in the Italian top-flight following his move to Genoa last season.
The 22-year-old, who primarily operates as a left-back, has also impressed at right-back as well as central midfield for the Serie A club this season.
Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a new left wing-back this summer, with Antonio Conte allegedly not convinced by Sergio Reguilon (Football Insider).
Alfredo Pedulla reported this week that Cambiaso is one of the options on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window. The journalist added that Spurs could face competition from the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli for the 22-year-old.
Cambiaso’s agent Giovanni Bia has insisted that the young defender is destined to reach major heights, backing him to be an important player for the Azzurri over the next decade.
Bia told Radio Marte (30/2/22) about his client: “Is he ready for the national team? To make it clear, he is a Paolo Maldini.
“He can play on the right or the left as a full-back or in midfield. He is two-footed and has flexibility. I think he should be part of the new (Italy squad). He has vision and quality. Italy needs players like that.
“We don’t have great fullbacks at the moment. For me, he will be one of the full-backs of the national team for the next ten years.”

Agents will obviously talk up the players they are representing but I am not surprised that Cambiaso is attracting so much interest, given his versatility. The 22-year-old could be a very useful squad player owing to his ability to play competently across multiple positions.
