TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to negotiate the potential transfer of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
It was TMW who first reported Atletico’s interest in Hojbjerg on June 19, with the publication asserting that the La Liga side had been alerted to the Spurs midfielder’s availability.
However, The Athletic and The Telegraph reported earlier this week that the Spanish side had not made any contact with Tottenham regarding a deal for the Dane.
Both outlets explained that the Lilywhites are open to listening to offers for the 27-year-old this summer.
Atletico Madrid have opened talks over Hojbjerg
TMW have now offered another update on Hojbjerg’s future, stating that the former Southampton man ‘continues to be a very important target’ for Atletico.
The report claims that Diego Simeone’s men are now locked in talks with the North London side over a deal for the midfielder.
It is explained that even though Tottenham’s valuation of Hojbjerg is ‘high’, the Colchoneros are trying to find a solution as they consider the player a priority target.
Spurs Web Opinion
It would likely take an offer of £35m for Atletico to get Tottenham to the negotiating table for Hojbjerg, given that the Dane has been a fixture in the starting eleven since he arrived three years ago.
It remains to be seen if Atletico are willing to pay that sort of fee.
If not, I suspect Postecoglou would be happy to keep him around as a squad player before finding a suitable solution in January or next summer.
