Tottenham Hotspur should keep hold of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer and look to add further midfielders to bolster their squad – that’s the opinion of Gabriel Agbonlahor, who feels the Danish international has lots to offer.

Hojbjerg has been a first-team regular for Tottenham since joining from Southampton in 2020. He has largely been one of the most consistent performers in the Spurs squad during his time in North London.

The 27-year-old came in for criticism last season – as did most players in the Tottenham squad – but he ended the campaign with five goals and seven assists in 44 appearances (Transfermarkt).

Those healthy returns may not be enough to prevent Hojbjerg from being sold this summer, as reports claim the Viking will not fit in Ange Postecoglou‘s more attack-minded system (Daily Mail).

A recent report from TuttoMercatoWeb claimed Tottenham were in discussions with Atletico Madrid to negotiate a deal for the midfielder.

Selling Hojbjerg would be a mistake from Spurs

As far as Gabriel Agbonlahor is concerned, selling Hojbjerg this summer would be an error in judgement for Tottenham Hotspur.

The pundit has been speaking to Football Insider and said Spurs should be signing more midfielders, not letting them go.

He said: “I really like Hojbjerg. He’s got an engine – he’s an all-round midfielder.

“He can do everything. I worry for Spurs. If they get rid of him, they’re down to Bentancur and Bissouma. One has had injury problems, and the other wasn’t great last season.

“Maybe Ange has got players in mind, but I’d definitely keep Hojbjerg. They need to keep him and add more midfielders on top of him.”

I also think letting Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave the club this summer would be the wrong decision.

He is an accomplished midfielder with lots of experience and someone who is not afraid to get stuck in and give it everything on the pitch.

We do not have enough players like this.
