Tottenham Hotspur are currently in talks with Atletico Madrid over a potential deal to take Pierre-Emile Hobjerg to the Spanish capital, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that Atletico manager Diego Simeone has told his recruitment staff to investigate a move for the Danish midfielder.

The former Southampton player has featured in an impressive 145 games in just three seasons at Tottenham, however with no European football on offer after last season’s disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League, the North Londoners only have domestic football on offer.

Hobjerg keen to join Atletico Madrid

Hojbjerg is said to be keen on a move to the La Liga outfit where he would have the opportunity to play in next season’s Champions League and wants the opportunity to join the club.

Tottenham are reportedly reluctant to sell the 27-year-old, however, sources claim that talks are still ongoing between all parties in the hope a deal can be reached.

Hobjerg, who has also previously played for Bayern Munich during his career is also attracting interest from German clubs.

Tottenham’s first choice midfield pairing should consist of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur when the Uruguayan is fully fit.   While Oliver Skipp is a very similar player to Hojbjerg, he is homegrown which would give the club the chance to look elsewhere if they offload the Dane.
